Storyline

Joan devoted her life to her daughter Joy, to her husband Joe, a gym teacher and her colleague, and especially to her job, teaching at a blind school. The she gets a macula-degeneration, which normally occurs slowly with seniors but is mysteriously accelerated, making her colorblind almost overnight and completely blind as a bat in days. After a very slow and difficult transition, she returns to work, where being blind like the kids has its merits too. Then medical misery strikes Joe even harder: the jock gets a tumor, the operation costs his right eye, but he stays generally sick, and doesn't survive. Once again she picks up the pieces of her life, and his time gets a new partner from her past, high school friend Jim Brock, who is now a reputed butterfly-expert... Written by KGF Vissers

Poorly researched
19 January 2014 | by macular1See all my reviews

As a sufferer of Macular degeneration for over 5 years It is appalling to find such a poorly researched portrayal of the illness.

Macular degeneration does not leave you completely blind, it only affects central vision. Peripheral vision is unaffected.

The whole medical description is unworthy of the subject matter, even a simple internet search will show you the story line is pure fantasy. The fact I am typing this is fairly conclusive in itself.

It's a horrible condition which ruins lives but I resent it being used to glorify a tale which is obviously false. This movie is an insult to the millions who struggle on through life with the condition, most people don't even realise we suffer with it, this movie just encourages those who believe it to be some sort "con" to engender sympathy or financial aid.

rant over.
