Ambition Withdraw (2003)

A raw, personal study of a struggling, southern gothic, punk rock band, where the lead singer refuses to compromise his vision and underground appeal, uniquely told via "art house" meets "schlock horror" and a relentless soundtrack.

The band The Unsatisfied are profiled in "Ambition Withdraw" is an award winning epic documentary, which follows 15 years of the band's career. The Unsatisfied (best described as a talented and intense alternative indie party-rock/glam-gothic punk recording act, from Chattanooga, Tenn, U.S.A.) is the super-sonic creation of the charismatic lead singer/composer (and actor): Eric Scealf, whose tenacious ambitions are the basis for the rockumentary. Scealf's goal is for his band to make it huge internationally, but, as 15 + years wear on, time, age and family commitment wear on the not-so-young band members(who are constantly getting ever older than their market audience), but who's hard-edged musical bent are really more artistic and spiritual than commercial. The Unsatisfied's struggle for recognition, makes for a fascinating story. The doc assembles current and vintage concert footage, interviews, community TV coverage, multi-media home movies, and various music video sequences. This ... Written by Tony 'Tex' Watt

Eric Scealf is the world greatest UNKNOWN rock front-man & the Band RAWKS, Baby!
13 October 2009 | by TONYWATT3000See all my reviews

If you mix Iggy Pop, Bowie, Freddie Mercury & Mick Jagger with the Misfits and Metallica...You still would not come close to measuring the charisma of Southern Rocker/Front Man: Erirc Scealf. I have had the pleasure of seeing this amazing rockumentary in Toronto and it is one of the greatest musical features I have ever seen. We see through archive and latter day footage, Eric and the boys go through their trials and tribulations of balancing a raunchy rock'n'roll lifestyle with their personal family lifestyle. It ain't pretty, but is a sonically and visually awesome & a beautifully American-Gothic cinematic experience for rockers cum cine-files. The music is awesome as well...don't be surprised if the Unsatisfied band gets a major record deal in the near future...the ARE the hardest working band in rock & definitely it's future!
