Pink Floyd's 1983 album, The Final Cut, shares a character with this film, Fletcher (named after Roger Waters' father). It isn't clear if this connection is deliberate, but the album also features overtones of tragic loss and memories.

The tattoo that Alan gets resembles the symbol for a pause button on an audio or video recorder (a circle with 2 vertical lines like an 11 inside). The point of the tattoo is to block (pause) audio recording from his Zoe implant.
