- TriviaThe movie was inspired by the story of Mehran Karimi Nasseri. He landed at Charles De Gaulle Airport near Paris in 1988, after being denied entry into England because his Iranian passport and United Nations refugee certificate had been stolen. French authorities wouldn't let him leave the airport, so remained in Terminal One, a stateless person with nowhere else to go. He was eventually granted permission to either enter France or return to Iran, but he chose to live in the terminal and tell his story to anyone who will listen. Reportedly, his mental health deteriorated over the years. When given the opportunity to live in France, he refused because the documents did not identify him as "Sir Alfred", and he claimed to have forgotten his native Persian. He left the terminal in August 2006 to be hospitalized for an unspecified illness. Afterward, he lived in a hotel on the money received from the film (DreamWorks reportedly paid him $250,000 for the use of his biography). Nasseri moved back to Charles de Gaulle airport in October 2022. He died in terminal 2F on November 12, 2022.
- GoofsAt the beginning of the movie, some of the images of the "Krakozhian revolution" on the TVs in the terminal are from the 1989 Romanian Revolution. They include Romanian flags, and for a short time (in the VIP Red Carpet Lounge) an image from Brasov, a large Romanian city.
- Quotes
Officer Dolores Torres: Let me ask you something, Mr. Navorski. Why do you wait here two hours every day when I've told you there's nothing I can do for you - that your new visa will not arrive until your country is recognized by the United States?
Viktor Navorski: You... you have two stamp. One red, one green.
Viktor Navorski: So, I have chance go New York, 50-50.
Officer Dolores Torres: [laughs] Yes, that's a beautiful way to look at it. But America doesn't work that way.
- Crazy creditsSPOILER: In the closing credits, the names of the production staff and prominent cast are the person's actual signature, rather than the standard block print used in the remainder of the credits. This follows with the secondary plot of Victor trying to get the last signature for the memory of his deceased father.

A well written, well portrayed entertainer that will win your heart!!!!
Viktor Navorski is a visitor to New York from Eastern Europe. His homeland erupts in a fiery coup, while he is in the air en route to America. Stranded at Kennedy Airport with a passport from nowhere, he is unauthorized to actually enter the United States and must improvise his days and nights in the terminal's international transit lounge, until the war at home is over. As the weeks and months stretch on, Viktor finds the compressed universe of the terminal to be a richly complex world of absurdity, generosity, ambition, amusement, status, serendipity--and even romance with a beautiful flight attendant named Amelia. But he has long worn out his welcome with airport official Frank Dixon, who considers Viktor a bureaucratic glitch--a problem he cannot control but wants desperately to erase.
