The actor, musician and troublemaker known for everything from Trainspotting to Fat Les opens himself up to your interrogations
Keith Allen: where to begin? You might know him as the guy who moves into the flat in Shallow Grave and then dies of a drug overdose, leaving a suitcase full of money and three flatmates on the prowl. Or as the dealer in Trainspotting who buys £16,000 worth of heroin from Renton and the gang. More recently he appeared as the dad in Eddie the Eagle and as the baddy in Agent Cody Banks 2: Destination London opposite Frankie Muniz, as well as in Kingsman: The Golden Circle and Rise of the Footsoldier: Origins.
Maybe you caught Allen as a beardy Scrooge in Mark Gatiss’ stage 2023 adaptation of A Christmas Carol. He’s been in The Young Ones, Spaced and Doctor Who. He co-wrote and appeared in the video for...

Summer isn’t over yet but HBO and its streaming arm Max are already moving on to fall. With its list of new releases for August 2023, Max is focusing on football! The American kind, mind you, not the actually footy kind.
August 2023 sees the release of two major football documentaries on HBO and Max. The first is the premiere of Hard Knocks on Aug. 10. The new season of long-running NFL training camp docuseries will center on the New York Jets, new employers of legendary quarterback Aaron Rodgers. On Aug. 23, Max will air the aptly named Bs High. The doc tells the stranger-than-fiction story of high school football team Bishop Sycamore, which pulled off one of the more notable sports scams you’re likely to ever hear about.
Not of the football variety but in keeping with the North American sports theme will be season 2 of Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty on Aug.

As befitting its status as one of the world’s biggest companies, every now and then Amazon likes to take a big swing with its Prime Video originals. With its list of new releases for April 2023, the streamer is taking one of its biggest swings yet.
Though it’s not quite as vast or expensive as fellow Prime Video series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Citadel (premiering April 28) is a massive, massive undertaking. Starring Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas, this spy series is described as “an expansive and groundbreaking global event comprising a mothership series and several local language satellite series.” This means that the Russo Brothers-produced project will eventually feature several spinoffs in multiple countries and languages around the world. Neat-o!

The jury system can by trying, but “Jury Duty” — a doc-style comedy series coming to Freevee on April 7 — examines it through the eyes of one juror. The catch: The actual juror, Ronald Gladden, doesn’t realize the case is fake and everyone else is an actor. All the crazy machinations inside the courtroom are planned, and everyone is in on it, except for Gladden. Will this lone juror be able to find his way to justice despite all of the chaos surrounding the case?

May isn’t quite summer yet but it is usually time that the networks start wrapping up their newest shows and preparing for a relatively fallow summer period. Since HBO isn’t a network, it has no such business model. But May sees the winding down of some HBO blockbusters all the same.
While there are some notable new releases for HBO in May 2020, the bigger story might be the things that are ending. Westworld concludes its third season on May 3 while new series Run wraps up on May 24. Thankfully the film losses in May aren’t too bad for HBO, unless the Agent Cody Banks saga drives a lot of traffic.
The most notable TV premiere in May is I Know This Much is True, a book adaptation starring Mark Ruffalo. This is a very bleak story coming along at a bleak time in history but perhaps those two things will cancel out.

‘Most importantly, the UK catalogue has exclusive dominion over perhaps my all-time favourite Netflix discovery: 2013 torture porn indie Would You Rather’
Last year, after pressure from a number of studios, Netflix added a clause to its subscription contract warning that it would terminate the account of any subscriber found to be using a Vpn – a service designed to mask a computer’s location – in order to access international versions of its streaming catalogue. While the company has seemingly yet to follow through on this threat, its introduction does draw attention to an uncomfortable truth for Netflix: the company provides a service that varies dramatically from place to place. The UK catalogue, for instance, offers less than half the titles available in the Us, and costs more.

Gary Oldman Says Sequel Could Be A Composite Of 'The Honourable Schoolboy' And 'Smiley's People' It's hard to say that the spy genre doesn't love a franchise. The longest running franchise in cinema history is, of course, the James Bond series, Jason Bourne is Universal's biggest tentpole, and from Harry Palmer to Jack Ryan, if audiences show even a sniff on interest in a character, executives will happily bring them back for future installments, which is why we've had to suffer through things like "xXx2" and "Agent Cody Banks 2: Destination London" over the years. As we discussed in our…...

When the dinosaur drama was cancelled after three series, it wasn't only the fans who were shocked. Hannah Spearritt, who plays Abby, says she was left stunned too.
"It was a tough time for everybody - there were a few shows that were unfortunately dropped because of the credit crunch," says the 29-year-old.
"It was bizarre because when we spoke to people on the street there was a sense that the public really believed in the show."
Spearritt took advantage of her time off by enjoying what she calls "life time".

David Kelly has nabbed the role of Grandpa Joe in Tim Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for Warner Bros. Pictures. The project is based on the celebrated Roald Dahl book, in which a young boy named Charlie and his grandfather tour a candy factory owned by the eccentric Willy Wonka. The book was made into a film in 1971, with the screenplay by Dahl, but titled Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. According to Warners, Burton's take, with a screenplay by John August, will skew more closely toward the book than the 1971 version. Kelly, who starred in Waking Ned Devine, joins Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka and Freddie Highmore as Charlie. Kevin McCormick is overseeing for the studio. Producing are Brad Grey and Richard D. Zanuck, while Liccy Dahl, Michael Siegal and McCormick are executive producers. Kelly's other recent credits include Laws of Attraction and Agent Cody Banks 2: Destination London.

Agent Cody Banks, the teen secret agent who last year helped MGM bide a bit of boxoffice time while awaiting the arrival of the next real James Bond installment, crosses over the pond to again save the world in Agent Cody Banks: Destination London.
In terms of inspiration or even the slightest shred of ingenuity, Banks ranks more like an 000 than an 007.
Even more than the so-called original, the sequel's content to trot out the flimsiest of heavily worn spy-movie cliches without bothering to give star Frankie Muniz an opportunity to pull off anything truly heroic or at the very least quick-witted.
That probably won't bother its not-so-demanding junior demo, but even that segment seemed a little restless at a preview screening, which could portend OK but at less-than-stellar numbers.
While the first Cody Banks was able to have some fun with its young protagonist trying to maintain a "normal" teenage life while undergoing all that extensive spy training, the second quickly dispenses with a similar summer camp scenario before sending Muniz's Banks off to England, where a rogue CIA agent is planning to implement a stolen, top-secret mind-control device for his own diabolical purposes.
With Hilary Duff, his previous partner in crime-fighting, now busy with her own film career, Banks is paired up with Derek (the ubiquitous Anthony Anderson), a CIA reject who's recruited to protect Cody Cover's as a clarinet prodigy at an elite music boarding school.
When he's not faking practicing, Cody runs around London on the trail of the bad guys with a little help from a fellow student (Hannah Spearritt) who just happens to be Cody's British secret service counterpart.
As directed by Kevin Allen and written by Don Rhymer, there's a whole lot of running around going on without pausing to get maximum mileage out of such potential goodies as dental retainer listening devices, exploding Mentos and piano-playing pooches.
Rather than give much in the way of day-saving to do, Muniz and company have to settle for taking in the local scenery (actually provided by London, not Vancouver), which has been colorfully captured by cinematographer Denis Crossan.

With zombies already on the scene, can the Scooby gang be far behind? With Universal Pictures' remake of Dawn of the Dead -- which opened last weekend to a powerful $26.7 million -- likely to exhibit a typical 50% horror film falloff, the door is open for a new occupant in the top spot. And after four weekends when R-rated films held the top spot, the kid audience will probably return en masse to make Warner Bros. Pictures' PG-rated Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed the new top dog. The first Scooby broke out of the pack with a $54.2 million opening and an eventual domestic gross of $153.3 million in 2002. The sequel about a chatty pooch and the misfit collection of humans who join together to fight all manner of CG monsters is once again directed by Raja Gosnell and reunites the cast headed by Sarah Michelle Gellar, Freddie Prinze Jr., Linda Cardellini and Matthew Lillard. With only one other kid-oriented movie in the markeplace -- MGM's Agent Cody Banks: Destination London, which earned to $6 million last weekend in its second frame -- Scooby 2 should have clear sailing. Barking up to 3,312 locations, it should clear the $20 million mark and then some.

Madonna and Guy Oseary's Maverick Films has acquired Forsaken Seoul with helmer Gene Rhee on board to direct. The project will be produced by Maverick principal Milton Kim along with Eric Kim of EK Films. Described as a contemporary suspense thriller set in Los Angeles and Seoul, South Korea, Forsaken follows an orphaned hit man from America in search of his long lost brother. Over time, the contract killer falls in love and gradually begins to discover a secret from his past. Rhee -- best known for his short film The Quest for Length, which screened at the 2002 Sundance Film Festival -- adapted the project from an original work by D.V. Vleck. Rhee also will receive producing credit. "Taking the remake mentality a step further, we've specifically set out to find filmmakers that have an understanding of cinema on a more global level, and this film represents a natural step in that direction," Milton Kim said. Overseeing for Maverick is senior vp Brent Emery. Maverick is in postproduction on Agent Cody Banks II and, for VH1, 30 Days Until I'm Famous.

Anthony Anderson will star opposite Frankie Muniz in MGM's sequel to Agent Cody Banks for director Kevin Allen. Shooting is scheduled to start next month in London. Dylan Sellers and David Nicksay are producing along with Splendid Pictures and Maverick Films. The sequel, penned by Don Rhymer, will see Muniz's title character go undercover as a foreign-exchange student in England. Anderson will star as Banks' special operative handler, much like Angie Harmon did in the first installment. MGM executives Elizabeth Cantillon, Eric Paquette and Stephanie Palmer are overseeing the project. The casting of Anderson to the project follows on the heels of his successful turn in the comedy Kangaroo Jack. He also has been in business before with MGM as one of the ensemble players in Barbershop for director Tim Story. Anderson is repped by manager ICM, Paul Young at Principato-Young and attorney Rick Genow at Stone, Meyer & Genow. He is onscreen in Malibu's Most Wanted. Anderson next stars in My Baby's Mama and has a cameo in Scary Movie 3, both for Miramax Films. Earlier this month, Anderson wrapped shooting a pilot for Warner Bros. Television that he co-created titled All About the Andersons.
