Randy Henry arrives in the Vancouver Downtown Eastside (DTES) looking for his sister Angel and their father. He's meets and falls for Angel's friend Stacy. Both Angel and Stacy work as prostitutes in the DTES. He also befriends Stacy's stoner boyfriend Cliffy, who eventually drags Randy into smoking pot with him. Randy gets some aspirations to leave the DTES and tries finding a decent apartment to live together with Stacy and Angel. In order to make money, Cliffy who does not know about Randy's infatuation with Stacy suggests to Randy that he should push drugs for Angel's boyfriend, a drug dealer named Wade. Angel reluctantly makes the connection but on the condition that Randy doesn't use the product which he agrees not to.
Upon be given a supply, Randy shows it to Cliffy who immediately grabs a pack from Randy and smokes it up. Over the course of time, Cliffy grabs several more packs from Randy promising each time to pay him back. One day Cliffy accidentally learns that Randy, Stacy and Angel have been looking around at apartments and realizes they were intending to abandon him. In the meantime Wade's bosses are putting pressure on him for payment, and he squeezes Randy to get paid. Randy goes to Cliffy for the money owed him, and Cliffy, now bitter about the betrayal, beats up Randy, steals the rest of his supply and also tells Randy the secret about his father that he had learned.
Now desperate for cash, and feeling lost about what he learns about his father Randy descends down into the very path that he had hoped to avoid.
