When his partner gets himself blown up in a mining accident, and his partner's wife gets killed when Indians attack her covered wagon train, child-hating Robert Thornby finds himself the unwelcome guardian of a young girl.... and she knows it.

Vitagraph responded to the success of Broncho Billy Anderson's Essanay westerns by sending out director Rolin Sturgeon with a company of actors to turn out westerns of their own... and they wound up turning out visually fine efforts that set every cliche of the B western in stone for forty years. The star of this short, Thornby, soon went on to a directing career of his own, with a wide variety of efforts through the middle of the 1920s.
