A shepherdess becomes an opera star. A shepherd becomes a sculptor.

Myfanwy, a young Welsh girl of the mountains, and Evan, a shepherd boy fall in love. His talent as a sculptor attracts the attention of a wealthy tourist, and the two sweethearts are separated. She becomes a great singing primadonna, under another name. Evan and Mifanwy are the shepherd and shepherdess of John Powys, brutal master of Powys Hall. Although neither knew it, Powys is the father of Evan. Years before he had cruelly turned his wife away from his door. Shortly after her babe was born, the mother died. Kindly cottagers had brought the babe up as the foster brother of their own baby, Mifanwy. Mifanwy possessed a wonderful voice, and Evan, as he grew older, found means of expressing his love for the beautiful in modeling. Laissabeth, niece of John Powys, found pleasure in Evan's company and grew bitterly jealous of the little shepherdess. In her anger, she spitefully pushed a sheep, left in Mifanwy's care, over the cliff, hoping that her uncle would punish Mifanwy. Evan, however, assumed the blame. There came a day, however, when Evan and Mifanwy, hopelessly in love, had to part. Befriended by a famous sculptor, Evan went to London and Rome to study, and at last came back famous. Meanwhile, Mifanwy had been engaged as a maid by Mrs. Pomfrey, of "Pomfrey's Royal Circus," manages by her son Tom. Her voice, however, attracted considerable attention, and after a period of hard struggles, she made her debut on the operatic stage under the name of "La Belle Russe." Immediate success was hers. As time passed Evan grew to love "La Belle," never suspecting her identity. Laissabeth, meanwhile, had not forgotten her early interest in Evan. She sought his society on every occasion and showed jealousy toward "La Belle." Once she visited the singer in her dressing room and warned her against Evan. Leaving the dressing room, she discovered the place on fire. Hurrying back, she turned the key in the lock, making Mifanwy a prisoner. She did not know that Evan was in the room. Evan, conscious of the fire, dashed toward the door, but it was locked. To save them, however, Tom Pomfrey, who had always lowed Mifanwy secretly, laid down his life, happy in the knowledge he was leaving Mifanwy with the man she loved. "La Belle" reached Wales before Evan. When he arrived he found her dressed again as the little shepherdess. And so these two had found everlasting happiness in the place where they had known its dawn, the hills of Wales.—Moving Picture World synopsis
