Naked Soldier (2012) Movie Review

Back in the crazy heyday of Hong Kong cinema, the word ‘naked’ used to appear in film titles a lot, particularly in those produced by schlockmeister Wong Jing. Notable examples of this were cult favourites “Naked Killer” (1992) and “Naked Weapon” (2002), two films revolving around sexy, scantily clad (or indeed naked) female assassins, with plenty of blood and bullets thrown in. Forming a loose series of sorts, the two have now been joined by “Naked Soldier”, again with Wong Jing as producer, and directed by Marco Mak (“Wo Hu”), with industry legend Sammo Hung on hand, backed by the expected bevy of limber beauties, including up and coming actress Jennifer Tse (sister of Nicholas Tse, and who also recently appeared in “Hong Kong Ghost Stories”) in the title role. The film kicks off in 1980 with Sammo as Interpol agent Lung, taking a trip to the states after successfully pulling off a massive drugs bust.

The Sorcerer And The White Snake will be available on VOD and iTunes January 3 and will open in theaters February 8, 2013.

Directed by Ching Siu-Tung (Naked Weapon), the movie follows a young herbalist (Raymond Lam of Highs and Lows) who falls in love with a beautiful woman (Dragon Squad star Huang Shengyi); who unbeknownst to him is only an incarnation of a legendary thousand-year-old white snake. "Spectacular!" How about a couple of crazy funky CGI snakes and some badass Jet Li martial arts action to end the week? Magnolia Pictures has debuted the a Us release trailer for The Sorcerer and the White Snake, an action-adventure drama starring Jet Li as a sorcerer who discovers the identity of a thousand-year-old White Snake disguised as a woman. Whoa, what? Yea this looks insane in so many different ways. While you may assume the CGI will look bad (and it does a few times), this otherwise looks like quite a fun movie. Cast includes Shengyi Huang, Eva Huan, Charlene Choi, Raymond Lam. Must see to believe. Here's the official Us trailer for Siu-Tung Ching's The Sorcerer and the White Snake, via Apple: Action director Ching Siu-Tung (Duel to the Death, The Swordsman I-iii, Naked Weapon, An Empress and the Warriors) helms this fantasy film based on an

Nikita: The Complete Second Season

Stars: Maggie Q, Shane West, Lyndsy Fonseca, Aaron Stanford, Dillon Casey, Melinda Clarke, Xander Berkeley | Developed by Craig Silverstein

Taking it’s inspiration from the classic 1990 film (La Femme) Nikita from acclaimed French director Luc Besson and the American remake Point of No Return, aka The Assassin, as well as the original USA series La Femme Nikita, the CW’s Nikita stars American actress Maggie Q – probably best known here in the UK for her role in the sexy Hong Kong action thriller Naked Weapon and for her role as Imf Agent Zhen in Mission Impossible: III - as the titular spy Nikita Mears.

After the events of the first season, which saw sides chosen, loyalties tested and double-cross after double-cross, the second season opener sees Nikita now teamed up with Michael, who was hunting her this time last year, and on the run

Jennifer Tse Stays Covered Up in New Naked Soldier Poster

Uber-producer Wong Jing returns with Naked Soldier, the third of his Naked movies, in what appears to be a decennial tradition, following on from Naked Killer in 1992 and 2002's Naked Weapon. This time Marco Mak is in the director's chair and Jennifer Tse is the drop dead gorgeous killer, who slowly discovers that she had a different life before becoming a cold-blooded assassin.  I'm curious to see how well Tse shapes up as an action heroine, as the film sees her going head-to-head with the likes of Sammo Hung, Philip Ng and Andy On. If martial arts prowess proves to run in the Tse family then Naked Soldier has every chance of being a somewhat guilty pleasure. However, the first trailer showed Tse doing...

Brand New Trailer for Marco Mak’s Over-the-Top Action Flick Naked Soldier

I know most people aren’t as excited about this one as I am, but that’s because they don’t appreciate a good girls-and-guns flick when they see it. Andy Sidaris is treated like a God in my house, and director Marco Mak’s “Naked Soldier” seems to exist somewhere between “Hard Ticket to Hawaii” and Corey Yuen’s “So Close”. I know this is supposed to carry on in the tradition of “Naked Weapon”, but, to me, it doesn’t have the same tone. Maybe that’s just me looking back on that flick with rose-colored glasses. Anyway, take a look at this synopsis: Interpol agent Ck Long busted a billion-dollar drug deal fifteen years ago. The cartel has avenged itself by hiring Madame Rose’s organization of assassins to kill Ck Long’s entire family. In revenge, she kills the entire family of chief investigator Ck Long.

New Poster and One Badass Trailer for Marco Mak’s Naked Soldier

It’s been almost one year ago to the day that we last covered director Marco Mak’s hot chick-oriented action endeavor “Naked Soldier”, another upcoming motion picture which features action choreography from Corey Yuen. The latest poster — which has been lovingly installed to the left — looks to carry on in the tradition of “Naked Weapon”, the Wong Jing-produced cheesefest starring the the gorgeous Maggie Q. Chinese movie-goers will finally have an opportunity to see the flick when it arrives in theaters this summer. In case you’ve forgotten, here’s what the flick is about: Interpol agent Ck Long busted a billion-dollar drug deal fifteen years ago. The cartel has avenged itself by hiring Madame Rose’s organization of assassins to kill Ck Long’s entire family. In revenge, she kills the entire family of chief investigator Ck Long. Long himself survives, and believes his young daughter is still alive.

Trailer For Wong Jing-Produced Naked Soldier Is Sexy Yet Dangerous

What's old is new again. Exactly two decades ago, notorious filmmaker Wong Jing produced Naked Killer, a "Girls With Guns" film that became a Hong Kong cult classic due to its graphic violence and explicit sexual nature.  He then followed it up a decade later with Naked Weapon, an unrelated film but containing similar themes.  Now he's at it once again in this decade with Naked Soldier and while times have changed, the level of sex and violence continues to stay the same.   The director is Marco Mak with Corey Yuen serving as action director.  In the cast is Jenn Tse, Sammo Hung, Anthony Wong, Philip Ng, Ankie Beilke, Lena Lin, Andy On, Luxia Jiang and Ellen Chan.Interpol agent Ck Long busted a billion-dollar...

Tantalizing Teaser Trailer for Marco Mak’s Sexy Actioner Naked Soldier

I’m a little late to the cinematic kung fu party on this one, my friends, but who cares? The “Naked Soldier” teaser trailer is here, ready and willing to give you the “sexy girls doing martial arts” fix you oh-so desperately crave. The film’s predecessor, Siu-Tung Ching’s 2002 actioner “Naked Weapon”, isn’t a stroke of genius by anyone’s standards, though it does feature quite a few nifty set pieces featuring the lovely Maggie Q. That alone gets it a few cool points, all of which are immediately deducted for that hideously cheesy rape sequence. “Naked Soldier”, while Maggie-less, looks like it’s going to be an absolute blast. With Corey Yuen handling the action duties, it better be. Here’s your plot synopsis: Interpol agent Ck Long busted a billion-dollar drug deal fifteen years ago. The cartel has avenged itself by hiring Madame Rose’s organization

Behold The Arrival Of Marco Mak's Naked Soldier. First Teaser Arrives!

As a man I feel it is my duty and obligation to point out that if you're going to call your movie Naked Solider then the zipper should be going the other way. Beyond that, however, I have no complaints about the brand new teaser for Marco Mak's conclusion to the Wong Jing produced Naked Trilogy, this film following behind Naked Killer (1992) and Naked Weapon (2002). Interpol agent Ck Long busted a billion-dollar drug deal fifteen years ago. The cartel has avenged itself by hiring Madame Rose's organization of assassins to kill Ck Long's entire family. Long himself survives and believes his young daughter is still alive. In fact, for these fifteen years, the girl has been kidnapped by Madame Rose, brainwashed and...

What Women Want (2011) Movie Review

What Women Want” is a Chinese remake of the 2000 Hollywood romantic comedy of the same name, with megastars Andy Lau and Gong Li taking the roles played by Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt in the original. The film, one of the few to actually market itself as an Eastern remake, was fittingly written and directed by a Chinese American in Chen Daming, who previously helmed the comedy “One Foot off the Ground” and the recent Chinese animation “The Dreams of Jinsha”. While the film obviously belongs to its leading couple, it also boasts a photogenic supporting cast that includes former idol Benny Chen (“Just Call Me Nobody”), TV actress Yuan Li (“The Bronze Teeth”), Hu Jing (“Drink Drank Drunk”), Anya (“Naked Weapon”), and American actor Russell Wong (“The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor”). Shifting the action from Chicago to Beijing, the film follows the plot of the original pretty closely,

Sorry boys, no nudity on the posters but Hong Kong's Naked Weapon series is making a return with Marco Mak's Naked Soldier.Director Mak is joined by a very strong cast and crew on this one. Cory Yuen serves as action choreographer while Sammo Hung, Andy On and Philip Ng - all very strong martial artists - join Jenn Tse in the cast as the titular soldier. Yes, I know what I just wrote, don't go there.Interpol agent Ck Long busted a billion-dollar drug deal fifteen years ago. First clip from the CW’s ‘Nikita’

When it was first announced that the CW network were planning yet another TV adaptation of Nikita I scoffed at the prospect. Then it was announced that Maggie Q (Naked Weapon) was starring as Nikita, and that the show was actually a new take on the oft-repeated tale – The CW’s Nikita sees a new operative being trained to replace the original one after she goes rogue – suddenly my interest was peaked.

Now comes this action-packed trailer that has me gagging to see the series:

Previous Nikita’s were played by Ana Parillaud (Luc Besson’s La Femme Nikita), Bridget Fonda (the American remake Point of No Return) and Peta Wilson (the USA series).

Nikita is set to air on the CW Thursday nights at 9pm.

The Warrior and the Wolf (2009) Movie Review

Although many viewers might quite reasonably groan at the thought of yet another Warring States period swordsman epic, “The Warrior and the Wolf” is certainly a film which should give pause for thought, thanks to the presence of director Tian Zhuangzhuang. Indeed, the fifth generation helmer is somewhat of an unexpected choice for the genre, having previously been responsible for acclaimed dramas such as “Springtime in a Small Town” and “The Go Master”. If the thought of such a humanistic and artistically minded director turning his hand to the form wasn’t enough, the film also features an intriguing pan-Asian cast headed by Japanese actor Odagiri Joe (recently in Kore-eda Hirokazu’s “Air Doll” and who also starred in Korean auteur Kim Ki Duk’s excellent “Breath”) and Maggie Q (who has risen from the likes of Wong Jing’s “Naked Weapon” to Hollywood hits such as “Die Hard 4.0”). Maggie Q to Kick Vampire Ass in ‘Priest’

After making me sad that I own eyeballs yesterday with the trailer for Legion, I'm slightly uplifted again for a Paul-Bettany-battling-a-lot-of-monsters project. The reason for the tiny improvement in my emotional state is that action star Maggie Q is joining the cast for Priest. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Q is going to be a bad ass vampire killing machine that teams up with Bettany's priestly character in the fight against the dark villains that roam the wild west. Maggie Q is awesome. I loved her in Live Free or Die Hard and Mission Impossible III despite neither movie being all that awesome. She brings a very dark, sophisticated look to her ass-kickery, and I have no doubt that she'll play well against Bettany's cold-shoulder school of acting. And if you haven't seen her in Naked Weapon, you owe it to yourself to search it out. Especially if you have no sense of decency. Which

The White Crane Chronicles: Review

Kill Bill star and Kung Fu legend David Carradine returns to the small screen in two feature length productions directed by Philip Spink, forgive the pun but Kung Fu fanatics will probably get a real kick out of the 72 year olds return to martial arts television, the rest of the world will just have to suffer. The show reunites Carradine with Daryl Hannah, not to mention a fine array of Eastern talent. Most notably Pei-pei Cheng of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon fame and the welcome return of Anya (Naked Weapon), after a near fatal car accident which has left her scarred for life. Though it has to be said the scars are barely visible now and she still looks absolutely stunning. Welcome back Anya.
