Phil has lost his job as a janitor, and is in search of another. He wanders into an opium joint, and is given a pipe. He wanders off in imagination to the realms of the Celestial Empire. Here he finds himself in the home of a Mandarin. The Chinks, who guard the great personage, begin to make it hot for Phil, but the most beautiful of all the maidens begs the Mandarin to spare his life. He does so, and makes Phil guardian of the fish pond. The home of the Mandarin is a magic place, and all sorts of visions keep appearing and disappearing before Phil. The beautiful maiden comes to him as he is engaged in fishing in the pond, and begs him to rescue her from the power of the Mandarin, who holds her captive against her will. He is delighted to help her, and gets an idea. They retire behind opposite sides of the ornamental shrubbery, and throw their clothes out to each other.
