Netflix Reveals the Most Binge-Watched Shows of 2017: ‘American Vandal,’ ’13 Reasons Why,’ and More
Netflix is notorious for keeping all streaming data hidden from public knowledge, but the company has broken its silence by revealing which shows were the most binged in 2017. Netflix looked at the average daily viewing hours per user from November 2016 to November 2017 to come up with its official “Shows We Devoured” list, which is surprisingly topped by the acclaimed true crime spoof “American Vandal.”

Series viewed more than two hours per day were considered “devoured,” while those viewed less than two hours a day were categorized as “savored.” The Emmy-winning drama series “The Crown” topped the “Shows We Savored” list, which also included numerous comedy titles such as “Big Mouth,” “Neo Yokio,” “Disjointed,” “Dear White People,” and Glow.” The most-binged list included popular foreign titles like the Brazilian series “3%” and the Mexican political drama “Ingobernable.”

Someone watched Bee Movie 357 times on Netflix in 2017

Kirsten Howard Dec 11, 2017

Shout out to the UK subscriber who watched Bee Movie 357 times this year. Your dedication has been duly noted by Netflix...

Bee Movie, the 2007 animated meme generator, has a very committed UK fan. Someone so enamoured by the adventures of Barry B. Benson, that in 2017 they were willing to spend 32,487 minutes of their time rewatching the film on Netflix.

Netflix, for their part, did not want this devotion to go unsung, so this week they specifically acknowledged the bee-witched viewer and created a little buzz (I'm sorry) surrounding the, er, achievement, by including the factoid in their 2017 'Year In Review'.

The Jerry Seinfeld-starring flick could have been consumed once a day, or for almost 24 days continuously. No one knows, as the streaming giant are naturally keeping the person's identity anonymous, and further details under wraps.

Oh, and Netflix also released a bunch of Top 10 lists, but

DGA Reports Slight Increase in Number of Women and Minority TV Directors in 2016–17 Season

“Insecure” employed 100 percent women and minority directors in 2016–17

The Directors Guild of America (DGA) has published the 2016–17 Episodic TV Director Diversity Report. The annual study examines the directing credits on all the episodes broadcast in a given TV season. For the 2016–17 edition the DGA analyzed a record 4,482 episodes, marking a 10 percent increase from 2015–16’s 4,061 episodes. Alongside the rise in the amount of TV content, the number of female and minority directors also increased slightly from the previous season to reach an all-time high.

People of color directed 22 percent of 2016–17 episodes, as compared to last year’s 19 percent. Women directed 21 percent of this season’s episodes, a four point increase from last year. While it’s exciting to see the number of women and non-white helmers grow, it’s worth repeating that the huge racial and gender gap amongst TV directors is still very much a reality.

Et Obsessions: ‘Blade Runner 2049,’ Cardi B, 'The Good Place' and More!
Here at Et, we’re obsessed with a lot of things -- and this is what we’re most excited about this week:

Why We’re Obsessed With Cardi B

The odds of relative newcomer Cardi B dethroning Taylor Swift’s pop juggernaut, “Look What You Made Me Do,” from the top of the Billboard Hot 100 seemed stacked against her. And yet, as fate would have it, the New York rapper’s infectious debut single, “Bodak Yellow,” has finally landed at No. 1, making the 24-year-old the first solo female hip-hop artist to top the chart since Lauryn Hill in 1998 with “Doo Wop (That Thing).” Her quick ascent is especially impressive considering Cardi has never had a chart presence before “Bodak Yellow.” Now, all eyes are on the former Love & Hip Hop: New York star as fellow artists, including Swift herself, Nicki Minaj and Missy Elliott, have all shown support. But more than anything, it’s hard

‘The Crown,’ ‘Feud,’ and ‘Victoria’ Battle for Best Score Emmys — Listen

‘The Crown,’ ‘Feud,’ and ‘Victoria’ Battle for Best Score Emmys — Listen
Ascending queens Elizabeth (“The Crown”) and Victoria (“Victoria”) face off in the Emmy race for Series Original Dramatic Score, while old Hollywood (“Feud: Bette and Joan”) counters Russian classicism (“Fargo”) for Limited Series, Movie, or Special Dramatic Score.

Meanwhile, political (“House of Cards,” Taboo”) and survival overtones (“Planet Earth II” and “A Series of Unfortunate Events”) clash in the Series category, as well as war (“Five Came Back,” “The White Helmets,” “Suite Française”) and culture (“O.J.: Made in America”) in the other category.

Not surprisingly, the odds are with Rupert Gregson-Williams (“The Crown”) and last year’s “Mr. Robot” winner, Mac Quayle (“Feud”), for their respective retro scores. While Williams reached for orchestral nobility, Quayle went for more orchestral glam.

The Crown” — “Hyde Park Corner” (Rupert Gregson-Williams)

The score for showrunner Peter Morgan’s drama about the rise of Elizabeth II (nominated Claire Foy) was all about restraint, given her sense of calm.
