Leslie West, Mountain Guitarist Who Belted Out ‘Mississippi Queen,’ Dead at 75
Leslie West, the towering guitarist who created the hard-rock milestone “Mississippi Queen” with his band Mountain, died Wednesday morning. West’s brother, Larry West Weinstein, confirmed the musician’s death to Rolling Stone. He was 75. The cause of death was cardiac arrest. On Monday, West was rushed to a hospital after suffering cardiac arrest at his home near Daytona, Florida, where he never regained consciousness.

Released in 1970 on Mountain’s debut album, Climbing!, “Mississippi Queen” was two and a half minutes of boisterous bliss built around West’s burly yowl

Premiering last month at the Toronto International Film Festival, if there was one thing everyone could agree on about Aaron Sorkin‘s directorial debut “Molly’s Game,” it was that it was very… Aaron Sorkin-y. Even if his chops behind the camera still need some work, the dialogue is exactly what you’d expect. It’s no “The Social Network” or even “Steve Jobs” (which was pretty underrated, if you ask me) but it does feature Jessica Chastain gamely chewing into the screenplay while wearing some outrageously beautiful/trashy attire.

Stars Attend Poker Tournament Benefiting Los Angeles Police Memorial Foundation

For 45 years stars from TV, Film, Music and Sports along with community members have come together to show support for the men and women who protect and serve Los Angeles. On September 10, 2017 they joined together again to help raise funds for the Los Angeles Police Memorial Foundation at Avalon Hollywood.

Proceeds from this event benefitted Lapd employees and their immediate family members, who have experienced unforeseen catastrophic circumstances, including death, illness and injury. The Memorial Foundation is the cornerstone of the Los Angeles Police Departments employee wellness program and has granted over $17 million without any direct taxpayer money.

Las Vegas High Roller Cabin Arrival

At 15 tonnes each, the gargantuan cabins that comprise the new Las Vegas High Roller – a viewing platform that somewhat apes London’s Eye but done American style – is a phenomenal achievement.

Even on the face of it, the High Roller is worth a spin due to the sheer technical achievement of assembling the cabins after a 500 mile trip from their original construction site, to the final destination.

The Las Vegas strip was already a stunning visual achievement, but just wait until you’re looking across the entire city from the skies in one of the 28 individual passenger cabins.

Measuring 550 feet tall and capable of carrying over a thousand passengers, the record-breaking “High Roller” officially opened for business yesterday on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada. Photo: Ethan Miller/Getty Images The main attraction in the shopping and entertainment district known as The Linq, the High Roller looks both decadent and terrifying, featuring 28 spherical cabins weighing 44,000 pounds each, encased in steel and glass. Each “pod” can hold 40 people, and is equipped with its own sound system and video monitors. The wheel itself, which is lit by 2,000 Led lights in changing colors, takes 30 minutes to complete a single rotation.
