Netflix has ordered the limited series “The Beast in Me” with Claire Danes set to star, Variety has learned.
The series hails from writer Gabe Rotter, with Howard Gordon attached to serve as showrunner. The series reunites Gordon and Danes, as they previously worked together on the hit Showtime series “Homeland.” Danes starred in the series, which Gordon co-created and executive produced.
The official logline for “The Beast in Me” states, “Since the tragic death of her young son, acclaimed author Aggie Wiggs (Danes) has receded from public life, unable to write, a ghost of her former self. But she finds an unlikely subject for a new book when the house next door is bought by Nile Sheldon, a famed and formidable real estate mogul who was once the prime suspect in his wife’s disappearance. This post contains spoilers for "Ted Lasso" season 3.
"Ted Lasso" season 3 has just come to an end, leaving the fictional team of AFC Richmond at a crossroads after their head coach leaves his fish-and-chips-out-of-water life in London behind. Overall, the supposedly last season of the Apple TV+ phenomenon left a lot to be desired, failing to live up to the high points of the first two seasons where the jokes that hit far outweighed the ones that fell flat. While a lot of the episodes in season 3 felt overly long and unnecessarily melodramatic, the overall spirit of the show managed to stay intact thanks to Jason Sudeikis' naively positive "aw shucks" attitude as Ted.
Ted isn't only a sports fan, he's a pop culture aficionado raised on Thursday night primetime sitcoms from the '80s. Throughout its entire run, "Ted Lasso" has peppered in a number of clever references to the golden years of U.

At one of the first table reads for Hamilton in 2015, Anthony Ramos couldn't keep his eyes off of Jasmine Cephas Jones, at least according to Lin-Manuel Miranda. From there, it didn't take long for the pair to start dating, even adding in a flirtation for their Hamilton characters John Laurens and Peggy Schuyler. Four years later, Anthony proposed to Jasmine in England in front of her mother, grandmother, and good friend Cynthia Erivo.
In an Instagram post about the proposal, Jasmine gushed about the exciting moment, telling Anthony, "I love you beyond words and am so excited to continue this awesome journey with you." And what an awesome journey the pair have had; from debuting on Broadway at the same time in Hamilton to appearing in music videos together and supporting each other throughout their respective careers, they've certainly made an impression. I’ve always been a huge fan of when actors and comedians known for only playing funny parts take on serious roles. There’s just something fascinating about these guys trying something that’s completely foreign. And for the most part, I’ve enjoyed seeing funny guys be serious. Adam Sandler was great in Punch Drunk Love and Funny People. Steve Martin was awesome in Shopgirl. Robin Williams was amazing in every single serious role he ever played. Jim Carrey in The Truman Show. Even Will Ferrell killed it in Stranger Than Fiction. The list goes on and on. The latest comedian taking

Iconic Hollywood director Mel Brooks will present Steve Martin with the American Film Institute's 43rd Life Achievement Award — America's highest honor for a career in film. Martin will be recognized as one of the most acclaimed artists of his generation. The private black tie gala will be held at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood on June 4 and will premiere Saturday, June 13, at 10 p.m. (Est/Pst) on TBS, with an encore at 11:30 p.m. (Est/Pst). Sister network TCM will present an encore of the special on Thursday, July 30, at 8 p.m. (Est/Pst) during a night of movies starring Martin.
As the 41st AFI Life Achievement Award recipient in 2013, Brooks is also in an elite group as an "Egot" — an artist who has received all four major entertainment prizes: the Emmy®, Grammy®, Oscar® and Tony® awards. Most recently Brooks was awarded the British Film Institute Fellowship — the British Film Institute's highest possible honor. Brooks has written, directed, produced and starred in many classic comedies, including "The Producers" (1967), "Blazing Saddles" (1974), "Young Frankenstein" (1974), "Silent Movie" (1976), "High Anxiety" (1977), "History of the World Part 1" (1981), "To Be or Not to Be" (1983), "Spaceballe" (1987), "Robin Hood: Men in Tights" (1993) and "Dracula: Dead and Loving it" (1995). His visionary film company, Brooksfilms Limited, also produced critically acclaimed films such as "My Favorite Year" (1982), "The Fly" (1986), "84 Charing Cross Road" (1987) and the Academy Award®-nominated "The Elephant Man" (1980).
Steve Martin is an actor, comedian, author, playwright, screenwriter, producer and musician. Recipient of an Emmy®, four Grammy Awards®, a Kennedy Center Honor and an Honorary Oscar®, Martin first rose to prominence as a stand-up comedian and quickly established himself as a leading man with a body of work defined by his unique creative voice. In his break-out role in "The Jerk"(1979), which he also co-wrote, Martin's distinct comedic sensibilities launched him into the zeitgeist.
He went on to become a bankable big-screen star, with distinct roles in films such as "Pennies from Heaven" (1981), "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid" (1982), "The Man with Two Brains" (1983), "Three Amigos!' (1986), "Little Shop of Horrors" (1986) and "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" (1988), "All of Me" (1984), "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles" (1987), "Roxanne" (1987) and "Father of the Bride" parts I and II (1991, 1995), "Parenthood" (1989), "Grand Canyon" (1991), "L.A. Story" (1991) and "Shopgirl" (2005) — a film which he wrote based on his novella of the same name.
In addition to his beloved film credits and his successful writing career, Martin is also an accomplished musician. Martin recently premiered his new musical "Bright Star," at the Old Globe Theater featuring original music by Martin and songwriter Edie Brickell, inspired by their Grammy Award®-winning collaboration "Love Has Come For You."
"Steve Martin is an American original," said Sir Howard Stringer, Chair of the AFI Board of Trustees. "From a wild and crazy stand-up comic to one who stands tall among the great figures in this American art form, he is a multi-layered creative force bound by neither convention nor caution. His work is defined by him alone, for he is the author — and a national treasure whose work has stuck with us like an arrow in the head. AFI is proud to present him with its 43rd Life Achievement Award." Proceeds from the AFI Life Achievement Award Gala Tribute event directly support the Institute's national education programs.

Claire Danes in real life is not the Carrie Mathison you see on Homeland. It turns out Danes has a wee bit more fun than her onscreen counterpart, who finds herself busy fighting international terrorism. The Shopgirl actress, who has one child with husband Hugh Dancy, confessed on the Late Late Show Monday that she sometimes gets a little wild with her "mommy" friends. Although her partying days are mostly behind her, she and her gal-pals find some time to let loose. "Mommys are a deceptively dangerous bunch," she confessed. "When they're not with child they've got to cram it all in." Danes, who has 2-year-old son Cyrus Michael Christopher Dancy, revealed that when she has a...

Did you all hear? Not content with having been pegged for an Honorary Oscar just last year (and a Kennedy Center Honors back in 2007 as well as an American Cinematheque honor in 2004), our favorite silver-haired comedian slash banjo enthusiast has been named the 43rd recipient of the American Film Institute’s Life Achievement Award. This past June, they feted Jane Fonda, only the eighth woman to receive the honor, a statistic that would look surprising if it only it weren’t so familiar. Did you know women comprised 16% of all directors, executive producers, producers, writers, cinematographers, and editors working on the top 250 (domestic) grossing films of 2013 while females accounted for 15% of protagonists, 29% of major characters, and 30% of all speaking characters of said films? No wonder Reese, Gillian, heck even John Cusack, have been so vocal about this issue lately, following Geena Davis’s example.

Steve Martin has been named recipient of the highly prestigious AFI Life Achievement Award to be presented June 4th and aired on TNT and later on sister network TCM. After generally reserving this coveted prize to actors and directors who made their mark in dramatic films this is second time in the past three years that the American Film Institute has decided to lighten things up by giving their award to a person who made their mark in comedy. And it has paid off. Mel Brooks got the honor in 2013 and it resulted not only in a hilarious and memorable evening, it got higher ratings and brought the AFI special its first Emmy for Outstanding Variety Special in August. But Martin is the first recipient who actually started and made their reputation as a stand up comic. And his films beginning with The Jerk and continuing with such modern comedy...

From Oscar-winning to Homeland and more, here's what the cast of My So-Called Life have been up to over the past 2 decades...
Twenty years has passed since we were first introduced to the characters of My So-Called Life, twenty years! Where has the time gone? And more importantly when did I get so old?

Twenty years has passed since we were first introduced to the characters of My So-Called Life, twenty years! Where has the time gone? And more importantly when did I get so old?

Fans of Steven Martin may recall that the comedian and actor has a history with Disney in more ways than one. Martin has starred in Shopgirl (which he also wrote), Bringing Down the House and two Father of the Bride films (a third has been rumored but debunked by the actor himself), all from Touchstone Pictures, which can be found under the Disney banner. But decades ago, before he got famous, Martin actually worked at the Magic Shop at Disneyland, and even performed magic in his early comedy career. And now he'll get his magical groove back as THR reports he will lead the family comedy Magic Camp. Here's a video of Steve Martin doing magic as The Great Flydini from "The Tonight Show" in 1992: The original script comes from Diary of a Wimpy Kid writers Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah, but they're not only producing the film as...

It's currently being reported that Steve Martin will be reprising his role as cynical businessman George Banks in Father of the Bride 3.
Martin is tipped to return alongside Diane Keaton as wife Nina Banks in the comedy, which will see the couple's son Matty revealing his plans to marry the son of a Us Navy Seal.
1991's Father of the Bride was based on the 1950 movie of the same, while 1995's sequel was loosely based on 1951's Father's Little Dividend.
As we anticipate a potential Part III, catch up on the major stars' exploits since - and compare how they looked then and now:
Steve Martin
Steve Martin - already an established Hollywood name before Father of the Bride - plays hapless patriarch George Banks, who suffers a series of ridiculous misfortunes (and a mild breakdown - the too-plentiful pack of hotdogs springs to mind) after his daughter announces that she's getting married.

Not every great actor wins an Academy Award. (Rest in peace, Peter O’Toole.*) In fact, simply getting nominated for an Oscar or two might be the truer measure of excellence. There have been plenty of actors with as many Oscar statues as Paul Newman — one! — but few can hold a candle to his nine nominations, which represent a lifetime of brilliance.
But before an actor can pile up multiple nominations like Newman or O’Toole or Al Pacino, he or she needs that first nod. Sounds simple enough. Last year, four actors heard their name called for the first time,...

As awards season finally drags itself kicking and screaming back to Hollywood after a long well deserved vacation, there are two momentous events that officially signify its return. First, this pundit begins speaking in third person once again (oh, you know you love it) and, second, we present 10 predictions for the upcoming season. In August. In very early, er, late August. Over the years this writer has been very right (calling "Precious" and "Inception" Best Picture nods) and he's been so, so wrong (yikes, I guess that nomination for Steve Martin's "Shopgirl" screenplay didn't happen did it?). Of course, putting...

It’s official: We tv has picked up its first scripted series with a 10-episode order to The Divide, written by Richard Lagravenese (Behind the Candelabra) and co-created by Lagravenese and Tony Goldwyn (Conviction), for a 2014 premiere. Its almost three decades back that the cult classic film Mr. India released. Starring Anil Kapoor, the film was the last time we saw the actor team up with director Shekhar Kapur. Now years later, the duo will be teaming up again, but this time for an international venture.
The film in question has been tentatively titled Indian Sherlock and will be directed by London based filmmaker Anand Tucker, whose past works include Leap Year and Shopgirl. Though Anil will be acting in the film, Shekhar will be involved in the project as the creative producer.
Anil Kapoor is currently busy working on his TV series 24, but he is equally ecstatic about this project.

I’m sure if I called Jason Schwartzman a funnyman to his face, he’d have some biting response that would put me in my place. Still any onlookers would laugh, thus reaffirming my decision. What further reaffirms it is the actor’s newest gig. Schwartzman is paying Pawnee a visit as he guest stars on Parks and Recreation.
The Huffington Post had the latest on Schwartzman’s character. He will play one Dennis Lerpiss, owner of the Pawnee VideoDome. What’s a VideoDome? No, it’s not a civic center. It’s a video store and the only place in Pawnee where you can rent an film. At least it was. Cue the violins. This economy has led to a downturn for the video spot. Maybe the well-intentioned Leslie Knope can help.

After the important developments for main characters that we’ve seen in previous episodes this year, and for Pete Campbell in particular from “Signal 30”, it’s hard to imagine a less “important” episode than “Far Away Places”. There is so little “going on” that the whole thing plays a little like the science fiction/Holocaust survivor story Ginsberg tells Peggy. Outside of Roger leaving his miserable marriage, very little of import occurs.

Steve Martin has the right idea. First, become an international movie star. Second, write a book. Third, turn that book into a charming and successful movie. Fourth... do that again.
You may remember a lovely little movie called "Shopgirl" with Claire Danes and Jason Schwartzman — it was based on a book that Mr. Martin wrote.
Impressed? We were. Which is why we're so excited that Martin is at it again—this time with his veteran literary effort, "An Object of Beauty."
According to Indie Wire, this go-round is starting to pick up some steam because Amy Adams has signed on for the lead (and will produce as well).
The story follows Lacey Yeager (seriously, how great a name is that?), a Sotheby's trained art entrepreneur, who sleeps and schemes her way to the top of the New York art world and opens her own gallery along the way.

Steve Martin‘s talents extend far beyond just stand-up comedy, acting, sombrero-wearing, and banjo-playing, as the multi-hyphenate has also dabbled in the writing world, including a swim with fiction with three novels (fine, “Shopgirl” was a novella). That first novel(la) was turned into a film back in 2005, and now Martin’s latest work of grown-up fiction will join it on the big screen. An Object of Beauty will be based on Martin’s 2010 novel of the same name, and the project is now getting outfitted with not only three producers, but an Oscar-nominated star. Amy Adams will lead the film as central character Lacey Yeager, as well as producing it alongside Maven Pictures producers Trudie Styler and Celine Rattray. There’s no word yet on the rest of the film’s cast and crew, including whether or not Martin will adapt his own book for the big screen (as he did with Shopgirl). Adams’ producer duties...

THR reports that she’ll also star in an adaptation of Object of Beauty, the 2010 novel from none other than funnyman Steve Martin. Check out a synopsis of the novel below.
Lacey Yeager is young, captivating, and ambitious enough to take the NYC art world by storm. Groomed at Sotheby’s and hungry to keep climbing the social and career ladders put before her, Lacey charms men and women, old and young, rich and even richer with her magnetic charisma and liveliness. Her ascension to the highest tiers of the city parallel the soaring heights–and, at times, the dark lows–of the art world and the country from the late 1990s through today.

Steve Martin: comedy legend, art collector, bluegrass musician, and yes, novelist. While his attempts at conquering the literary world likely aren't going to be the first thing people talk about in regards to his legacy, it's no surprise Hollywood has been paying attention. Martin's novella "Shopgirl" was turned into the intermittently entertaining and should've-been-better movie starring Claire Danes and Jason Schwartzman, and now, his latest effort to hit bookshelves is headed to the big screen. None other than Amy Adams will take the lead in "An Object Of Beauty," a title firmly worthy of the actress. Adams will also produce the effort, which is very early stages and doesn't yet seem to have a screenwriter on aboard, but the material has promise. Described as a "sardonic morality tale" (is there any other kind?), the story follows Lacey Yeager, a Sotheby's trained art entrepreneur, who sleeps and schemes her way to the top.

Growing up in the 1950s and '60s in Chennai (then called Madras), capital of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, Amritraj was fascinated by the American movies that made their way to his corner of the world. He remembers, of course, the likely suspects—"Ben-Hur," "The Sound of Music"—but also recalls more intimate films, such as those made by a man who would later become his friend, Sidney Poitier: "To Sir With Love" and "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner." Fast-forward a few decades, and Amritraj now makes American movies. He has produced a diverse array of films, from director Robert Rodriguez's political satire/action flick "Machete" to the Kate Hudson–as-relatable-single-gal project "Raising Helen." He has helped Steve Martin...

"Beginners" is director and screenwriter Mike Mills' love letter to his father, but its also something of a love letter to Los Angeles. Every couple of years there are a few films that seem to capture La at that particular time. Think of "Swingers" in 1996, Michael Mann's "Collateral" in 2004, Steve Martin's "Shopgirl" in 2005 or Catherine Hardwicke's "Thirteen" in 2003. And while "Beginners" takes place in the early 2000s, it...

In 1992, there may have been nothing bigger and more exciting than the video game Mortal Kombat. Wisely, Midway Games created their own universe with six realms which have unique backstories, all created by the Elder Gods. Players could manipulate their favorite surviving warrior — Johnny Cage, Sonya Blade, Liu Kang, and Jax, — and fight for survival in do-or-die tournaments.
The phenomenon was huge, spawning follow-up games, merchandise, and, of course, movies. Now available for download this week is the first Mortal Kombat film from 1995. The movie can be downloaded from iTunes and played on your iPod, phone, or tablet.
Released on August 18, it grossed $23 million and was proven critic proof. After earning over $70 million, it gave birth to 1997’s Mortal Kombat: Annihilation. The first film had the benefit of Paul W. S. Anderson’s early work, showing us what the director can do with action and other realities.
