Brit Porn star Cathy Barry and her hubby Phil decided to make "Cathula" a wall-to-wall sex film, sacrificing the potential horror content (and any chance at crossover). I enjoyed it on that level and was impressed with the atmospherics included.
It's built around a very impressive (and new to me) actress Jane Whitehouse, who becomes the first victim of vampiress Cathula and humps with her in her castle for the duration. Filmmaker Phil Barry is old-school, presenting nearly 20 separate sex scene segments of relatively brief duration rather than today's 30-minutes times 4 or 5 vignettes approach, and it makes for good pacing and useful variety. Up to a point, however, as the last half hour of the film devolves into a 7-person orgy, mixing two stranded couples with Barry, Whitehouse and the fantasy stud Geoff Pearce as eager "vampires of sex".
The sequel is hard-to-find (out of print) but probably worth my searching out, as Barry's fine photography and cinematic visuals (film looks like 35mm rather than video or HDV) highlight the sex quite well.
