Brie Larson Eyed For Disney’s Snow White Spinoff Rose Red

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is a time-honoured story that’s gone on to become a fixture of Disney’s prestigious archive – but what of her sister Rose Red?

From what we understand, the House of Mouse has now hatched a live-action “companion piece” designed to tell the famous tale from the perspective of Rose, with screenwriters Justin Merz and Evan Daugherty – creative mind behind Universal’s Snow White and the Huntsman – developing a revisionist take on the classic fairytale.

It’s still early, early days for the project, but tonight, we’re hearing that the studio has their eye on Captain Marvel star Brie Larson for the titular role. Though this scoop doesn’t come to us from Disney itself, it does make sense, given Larson’s connection to the House of Mouse via her involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

For those unfamiliar with Red Rose, she

Through the looking glass: the Alice exhibition taking crowds down a rabbit hole

Designed by Anna Tregloan, the exhibition has creative and immersive rooms that house more than 300 objects

Matt and Wendy Crandall have been talking to me for 20 minutes before I notice it: almost everything they are wearing is Alice in Wonderland-themed.

Her dress is covered in tiny Alices. Pink flamingos preen and pose across his shirt. Her earrings read “eat me” and “drink me”, and her charm bracelet is adorned with Wonderland trinkets – a limited edition Stella McCartney range tied to Tim Burton’s 2010 adaptation.

Movie Review – A Wrinkle in Time (2018)

A Wrinkle in Time, 2018.

Directed by Ava DuVernay.

Starring Storm Reid, Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling, Chris Pine, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Levi Miller, Deric McCabe, Andre Holland, Rowan Blanchard, Michael Peňa, Zach Galifianakis, and David Oyelowo.

Synopsis:

After the disappearance of her scientist father, three peculiar beings send Meg, her brother, and her friend to space in order to find him.

A Wrinkle in Time is a peculiar mess. It aims for the stars, but like a build-your-own-rocket, it flies limply up a few metres before crashing into an unremarkable fire. Director Ava DuVernay, who clearly cares for the source material, has lofty ambitions, yet ambition means little when narrative is at stake.

DuVernay, whose previous film was the startling Selma, grapples with sub Alice in Wonderland visuals and deeply personal discussions of growing into your own skin, neither of which stick with any clear cohesion. It’s a film yearning for gravitas,

Little Nemo in Slumberland getting animated feature adaptation

Variety is reporting that On Animation Studios (The Little Prince) and Hyrum Osmond (head of animation on Disney’s Moana) are teaming up for a CG-animated feature adaptation of the comic book series Little Nemo in Slumberland.

Described as a cross between Alice in Wonderland and Hook, Little Nemo in Slumberland is created by Winsor McCay and is a fantasy adventure which revolves around a young boy who travels through the land of dreams.

“The strip is truly an unlimited source for astonishing adventures,” said On Animation’s Aton Soumache. “McCay created a world made for CGI a century before the technology existed. It’s a passion project at the heart of On Animation’s philosophy: a beloved property leading to a story of emotional truth, set against a never-before-seen world.”

The world’s greatest detective returns in Sherlock Holmes: The Vanishing Man

Dynamite Entertainment has announced its continuing exploration of a literary icon – and pop culture sensation – with Sherlock Holmes: The Vanishing Man, a new series written by experienced Holmes writers Leah Moore and John Reppion, illustrated by rising talent Julius Ohta, and featuring cover artwork by superstar artist John Cassaday (Astonishing X-Men, Star Wars).

“Sherlock Holmes is just such a great character and the world he inhabits is such a rich one,” said Moore and Reppion. “Even in the original stories, Arthur Conan Doyle was always hinting at all these other, as-yet-unrecorded adventures which he and Dr. Watson had already had. To be able to fill in some of those gaps with our own stories is a huge privilege, but also loads of fun. The Vanishing Man is a mystery a bit more in line with the Strand Magazine short stories which were collected in The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. As ever,

Swiss Director Germinal Roux Talks About ‘Fortuna,’ Filming Adolescence

Berlin — Featuring as part of the Berlin Film Festival’s Generation 14plus section, “Fortuna,” the sophomore outing of Lausanne-born director Germinal Roux, tells the story of an immigrant 14-year old Ethiopian girl who, after crossing the Mediterranean, finds refuge in a Swiss Alpine Catholic monastery.

“Fortuna” is sold by Paris-based Loco films and produced by Ruth Waldburger at Swiss Vega Productions, in co-production with Géraldine Sprimont and Anne-Laure Guégan at Belgium’s Need Productions. Starring Kidist Siyum, the cast also includes international cinema icon Bruno Ganz, who has worked with Eric Rohmer, Théo Angelopoulos, Wim Wenders, Ridley Scott and Terrence Malick.

Roux is one of a notable number of Swiss filmmakers, like those of the omnibus feature “Wonderland,” which premiered at Locarno in 2015, feeling the urge to address hot issues such as migration, which was, for a long time, excluded from their national cinema and political debate.

A B&W movie – like all Roux’ films – capturing the appeal

Interview: Showrunner Nick Antosca Discusses Channel Zero: Butcher’S Block

  • DailyDead
How do you top the creepiness of the Tooth Child and the horrors of the No-End House? That's the question I had before digging into the first episode of Channel Zero: Butcher's Block. But thanks to the horrors teased within the first 10 minutes, I had my answer, and boy, is it ever the stuff of nightmares. With the third season of Channel Zero premiering tonight on Syfy, I once again had the pleasure of catching up with showrunner Nick Antosca to talk about the hearty helpings of horror that are in store for viewers this time around on the creepypasta-based anthology series.

Each season of Channel Zero I wonder how you're going to make it creepier than the previous season, but when I watched the first episode of Butcher's Block, it was the most freaked out I've been from anything you have done yet, so congratulations on that.

Nick Antosca: That's great,

'Harley Quinn' In "Wonderland"

  • SneakPeek
Sneak Peek images of actress Margot Robbie, aka 'Harley Quinn' in "Suicide Squad", posing for "Wonderland" magazine, photographed by Gia Coppola:

"There's nothing I dislike more than being in a photo shoot where they say, 'Be yourself'", said Robbie. "That's not why I became an actress. That's what I find so funny: that you become an actor, and all of a sudden, everyone wants to know about you. But I didn't become an actor so I could show you 'me'...

"I say this about everything: when I was on 'Neighbours,' I said, 'These are the best years of my life!'

"When I was filming 'The Wolf Of Wall Street,' I said, 'These are the best months of my life!'

"I always think I'm having the best time ever, and that I'll never have so much fun again...

"Everyone's like, 'overnight sensation.' It's not overnight.

Vanessa Kirby's Instagram Photo Is a Huge Hint About Her Replacement on The Crown

Season two of The Crown might have hinged around high-profile moments in Queen Elizabeth II's life, like her dinner with JFK or her trip to Ghana, but it's her younger sister, Princess Margaret, who steals the show. Thanks to Vanessa Kirby's exceptional performance, the fashionable, rebellious princess ends up being the second season's most relatable (and entertaining) character. Fortunately, it looks like Netflix has found the perfect actress to replace her in seasons three and four, since there will be a bit of a time jump. Ocean's 8's Helena Bonham Carter is in talks to take over for Kirby. Netflix has yet to officially confirm the news, but it seems like a done deal thanks to Kirby's latest Instagram photo. The two actresses happily posed for the camera, and Kirby even captioned the cute shot, "Honoured @thecrownnetflix." Seeing them next to each other only further proves how

Patty Hearst biopic from James Mangold cancelled

James Mangold was set to direct a biopic of Patty Hearst, an American heiress who has kidnapped in 1974 by a domestic terror group and forced to join them, for 20th Century Fox. Mangold even casted Elle Fanning in the role last month, but now the film has been cancelled according to Heat Vision.

Twentieth Century Fox Film and its production partners have decided to cancel the studio’s planned project based on the book American Heiress,” the studio said Thursday.

The cancellation comes after Hearst herself blasted the project and the unauthorized bio by Jeremy Toobin the film was based on, saying it “romanticizes my rape and torture and calls my abduction a ‘rollicking adventure”. Toonin was also crafting a docuseries with news network CNN, a project Hearst also called out.

“I am further saddened and appalled that Fox 2000 agreed to finance and produce a movie based on Toobin
