Storyline

A few incidents that happen at 11:14 p.m. in the town of Middleton are seen from five different perspectives, each of the players who generally works toward self interest, not caring about the consequence to other people, and in the process exacerbating the situations by his or her actions. Jack, in town to meet someone, is a chronic drinker and driver, he still doing so despite having his license temporarily suspended. Teens Mark, Eddie, and Tim are out for a joyride in Mark's van, they generally causing havoc all in the name of having fun, that is until something goes wrong. Frank, out for a walk with his dog, stumbles across something which makes him jump to a conclusion about his daughter, to whom he is both overprotective and overly trusting. Duffy, who works as a clerk at Lloyd's EZZZ Stop convenience store, goes to the store just as it is closing to ask his friend, the clerk on duty, Buzzy, for a favor, which may be difficult for her to grant based on her own needs, and Cheri ... Goofs

Supposedly, Cheri's story takes place in 20 minutes, assuming the clocks are correct. But from her introduction at 10:54 until 11:14, what is shown happens in about 18 minutes. This means that in that extra two minutes, Cheri had time to hook up jumper cables and do a jump, make two car trips and run from her house to the cemetery and back, among other things.

Obviously, Cheri lives very near the cemetery, as she is shown running to it with the 1st boyfriend. She is then shown running back. No time lapses, all real time. Then she's shown at her house and leaving in the car up to the stall and talking to the boys in the van. No time lapse. Then she crosses the highway to the convenient store, where there could be a small time lapse. 2nd boyfriend, no time lapse. She jumps the car, which is shown in stop motion, which could account for a minute of time lapse, as she's moving fast to save time. She drives back to the cemetery, another short time lapse (less than a minute). Everything else takes place in real time (in a total of 17:07 minutes, not 18). This submission makes it seem like she did a bunch of extra trips and other things which aren't shown, but it simply isn't true. Everything is shown in real time except for the 3 brief time lapses described, all easily done in the missing 2:53 (not 2 minutes). See more »

Intriguing and Intelligent Screenplay
8 October 2005 | by claudio_carvalhoSee all my reviews

In Middletown, at 11:14 PM, two cars accidents happen at the same time, affecting the lives of five different groups of people. A drunken driver hits a man in a lonely road near a bridge; three young men hits a woman with a van, one of the passenger has a severed penis while another man on the road shoots them; a young man robs a convenience store, with the support of the clerk; a man finds a body in a cemetery and gets rid off it; and a young pregnant woman tries to raise money for an abortion. All of these characters and their fates are very connected.

"11:14" is a great entertainment, presenting thriller, drama, crime, action and lots of black humor. The story goes forward and backward in time, but differently from "Memento" or "Irreversible", indeed presenting five different perspectives for two car accidents, each one of them disclosing new and darker information to the viewer, slightly recalling "Rashomon". The film is very well directed, and all the cast has good performances. My vote is seven.

Title (Brazil): "11:14"
