Top 10 WWE Matches of 2017

Liam Hoofe runs down the best WWE matches of 2017…

2017 has seen the WWE face its first real whiff of competition in years. While the likes of Njpw and Roh are not likely to ignite a full-scale war with the company like WCW, the shows, along with various other indie promotions, have really upped their game this year, especially from an in-ring standpoint. As we complete another lap around the sun, most wrestling fans are talking about the likes of Omega and Okada, and many fans are insistent that the WWE just can’t compete from an in-ring point of view.

While this may be the case, the WWE product, as a whole, still entices me more than any other promotion and reflecting back on 2017, I think the company has a stronger year than people give it credit for. The company has managed to reignite a fire that had long gone out in the tag-team division,

Wrestling Daily News Roundup: Major Change to Money in the Bank, PPVs Axed, Kurt Angle Vs John Cena?, Becky Lynch Update

Liam Hoofe with a round-up of the latest wrestling news…

Changes Made to Money in the Bank, Full 2018 PPV Schedule

For some time now, WWE fans have considered Money in the Bank as one of the year’s big shows. The PPV calendar traditionally highlights Royal Rumble, Wrestlemania, Summerslam, and Survivor Series as the company’s biggest four shows of the year, and they are the only four shows to feature both Raw and Smackdown brands competing. Well, according to PWInsider, it was revealed yesterday that Money in the Bank 2018 will also be a dual branded event, indicated that the WWE are beginning to treat it as one of their big shows.

The news was revealed alongside the full 2018 WWE PPV schedule, which features several other interesting changes. The first thing you may notice is that the company has trimmed their schedule from 16 shows to 14, which are made up of 5 dual branded,

Comic Book Review- WWE Survivor Series Special #1

Liam Hoofe reviews Boom! Comics WWE Survivor Series Special…

Back in August, when I reviewed Boom! Studios’ WWE SummerSlam Special, I finished the review by stating that I hoped the company would continue to provide these little nostalgia filled editions for each of the big events. The ‘big four’ wrestling events – Royal Rumble, WrestleMania, SummerSlam, and Survivor Series – all have a rich history, one that is ripe to be explored in the pages of a comic book. Survivor Series, the final big four events of the year, is perhaps the most interesting to explore. The event has become synonymous with surprises, debuts, big returns and of course, screw jobs.

Boom! Studios has lovingly crafted six such stories for their first Survivor Series special, exploring big events from the company’s past. Have they done these tales justice though? Let’s take a look…

The Montreal Screwjob

WWE Is About To Do Something Pretty Wild & Shocking With Roman Reigns, New Details

According to a new report from Forbes and a couple of other news outlets, it looks like the WWE is about to do something pretty wild with Roman Reigns' (above) character in an effort to try and cure Raw's declining ticket sales. Apparently, the WWE has plans to reunite Roman Reigns with his former tag team buddies Dean Ambrose and Seth "Freakin" Rollins to put The Shield back together again! They report that James McKenna of Pro Wrestling Sheet put out a tweet with a picture of the Shield. He captioned it with the words: "wowwww, hearing that to kickstart some ticket sales - they’re planning to give TLC in a month a Major card upgrade. its finally happeninggg." You guys can view the tweet on James McKenna's official Twitter account by Clicking Here. Forbes also said the Shield reunion was confirmed by the WWE booking team.

WWE No Mercy 2017 Review

Liam Hoofe Reviews WWE No Mercy 2017…

WWE No Mercy boasted arguably the best card the company has put together this year. With two mega-matches sitting at the top of the card and every title being defended, the show had a lot to live up on Sunday night, but did it deliver? Let’s take a look at each match and see what worked and what didn’t.

Pre Show: Elias Defeated Apollo Crews

The last few pre-show matches have had some sort of title on the line and have therefore been worth watching. This one wasn’t. Both Elias and Apollo are talented guys but the company clearly has no idea what to do with them, so chucking them in a random pre-show match is as good as it’s going to get for both men at the moment.

The match itself was a standard match that wouldn’t look

WWE No Mercy 2017 Predictions

Liam Hoofe with his predictions for Sunday’s No Mercy event…

WWE Raw presents No Mercy this Sunday, the company’s first PPV since SummerSlam at the end of August.

What a show the WWE has put together for this Sunday night as well. Not only is every title on the Raw brand being defended, but we are also being treated to two matches that are WrestleMania worthy. The show could easily turn out to be one of the best PPVs of the year and has had a pretty great build over the last few weeks.

So who is walking away from No Mercy with a tick in the win column? Let’s take a look at my predictions for each match.

Neville Vs Enzo Amore

Enzo Amore has had a strange few months. From being part of one of the company’s most popular tag teams to 205 Live, his

Comic Book Review – WWE #8

Liam Hoofe reviews WWE #8…

With the help of Sasha Banks, the Lunatic Fringe embarks on his own fury road to snag the Money in the Bank briefcase that is rightfully his.

Boom! Studios latest comic book WWE #8 closes their Dean Ambrose arc in a surreal and highly enjoyable fashion, starting out with a bonkers car chase involving Ambrose, Sasha Banks, The Wyatt Family and Charlotte Flair and finishing up with Ambrose’s famous victory at Money in the Bank 2016.

Being a wrestling fan, by and large, involves extending your disbelief, and this comic in particular takes that one step further. The opening sequence, which sees all the aforementioned stars racing to get to the Money in The Bank Pay-Per-View is an utterly bonkers extension of all of the characters involved.

Dean Ambrose has been a stand out character in these comic books,

WWE Bans Beach Balls After ‘SummerSlam’ Incident Involving Cesaro

  • The Wrap
(Updated at 3:18 p.m. Et with comment from WWE.) Vince McMahon wants you to take your (beach) ball and go home: the pro-wrestling promotion banned the WWE Universe from bringing “beach balls, pool noodles or any other inflatable items that could be bounced around” for Tuesday’s “SmackDown Live” show, according to wrestling blog PWInsider. This week’s banishment stems from an incident during Sunday’s “SummerSlam” pay-per-view, in which WWE Superstar Cesaro left the ring apron, jumped the crowd barricade, and tore up a beach ball that was being bounced throughout the Barclays Center during his and Sheamus

Lin-Manuel Miranda Makes Surprise Appearance at WWE SummerSlam
The Great White Way met the squared circle on Sunday night when “Hamilton” creator Lin-Manuel Miranda made a surprise appearance at WWE SummerSlam. The acclaimed composer/playwright/actor and overall badass was spotted ringside at the Barclay Center in Brooklyn, New York, for the WWE flagship event. Having won a Pulitzer, three Tony Awards, two Grammys, an Emmy and been nominated for an Oscar, Miranda easily slipped into the role of “excited WWE fan,” as he cheered and jeered along with the sell-out crowd. WWE ‘SummerSlam': Watch Braun Strowman Dump an Announce Table on Brock Lesnar (Video)
Brock Lesnar may have finally met his match — something WWE will exploit in the near future for an actual match. As if Braun Strowman power-slamming “The Beast Incarnate” through two announce tables wasn’t enough to satisfy Sunday’s “SummerSlam” main event, the aptly monikered “Monster Among Men” dumped the third ringside desk onto the WWE Universal Champion’s already bruised body. Lesnar was carted off after gamely taking those rough bumps, seemingly turning the evening’s Fatal 4-Way into a Triple Threat match between remaining competitors Strowman, Roman Reigns and Samoa Joe. However, Paul Heyman’s top client would

WWE SummerSlam took over the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, this weekend — and, as expected, the result was epic. The packed card in front of a sold-out crowd provided endless entertainment, from a historic tag team tournament to a brave WWE superstar daring to take on the mountain man Brock Lesnar (with a little help from the set). Comic Book Review – WWE SummerSlam Special 2017

Liam Hoofe reviews Boom! Studios’ WWE SummerSlam Special 2017…

WWE SummerSlam is one of the company’s biggest PPV’s and it has a long and storied history spanning back 29 years. The latest WWE special, SummerSlam 2017, from Boom! Studios gives us four stories based on historical moments and matches from the show, lovingly recreating them for long time lovers of the WWE product.

The first story in the collection is I Wined and Dined with Kings and Queens, a panel based on the matchup between Dusty Rhodes and Macho Man Randy Savage from the 1990 edition of the show. Told from the perspective of a fan who can’t decide which of the two stars he is loyal to in the build-up to the match, the story is an affectionate love letter to being a younger fan. SummerSlam has always had a special place in my heart as a fan, it was the first PPV I watched,

WWE SummerSlam 2017 Predictions

Liam Hoofe predicts the results of this Sunday’s WWE SummerSlam event…

WWE SummerSlam – the biggest party of the Summer and the WWE’s second biggest PPV of the year – comes to us live this weekend from Brooklyn, NY. The show, which has one seriously stacked card, is expected to run for over 6 hours and features some of the year’s most intriguing match-ups, including arguably the biggest main event of 2017 so far.

Here are my predictions for this Sunday’s show.

Pre-Show: Neville Vs Akira Tozawa (Cruiserweight Title)

This week’s go home shows were surprising, to say the least. One of the biggest surprises was Neville dropping his Cruiserweight title to Akira Tozawa on Raw. While the decision to do it on an episode of Raw was baffling, if they have done it to get the rematch out of the way quickly and they move Neville up the card,
