A Chinese cop tracks down a Chinese gang lord who specializes in kidnapping of Chinese immigrants to serve in his American sweatshops and who killed her partners. Following him to San Diego, she teams with an American agent and his team. The differences of operation immediately becomes clear as the American team relies on paperwork and she wants to attack head on to bring him down, but the two eventually reach an understanding of each other and work to bring the gangster down. Did You Know?

David Cross: Shhhh, you're a victim. Justice is not fair. Justice is not blind. Justice is a beast, a beast that feeds on lives and blood. I have no other blood to feed the beast... but yours. I feel sorry for you. You're nothing, your life is over. You will be chewed up and spit out, left to die slowly in a little gray box. And you know that's true. You can't escape the beast. Give me more blood and I can hide you. Give me one to take to your place.

above average martial arts cop show

I intended to write a full critique of this but found someone had beaten me to the draw. I agree entirely with the long essay describing characterisation, et al. I would just add that the only reason I logged in to comment was the subtle (and not so subtle) humour amongst the characters lifted this above the normal drear cop pilot shows we see from the US.

I would enjoy a series based on this: a strong start with a good cast.
