WWE Superstar Roman Reigns on His Return, Leukemia and Reuniting With the Shield

  • Variety
WWE Superstar Roman Reigns returned to in-ring action in fine style Sunday night, reuniting with fellow members of the Shield Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose for a victory over the team of Drew McIntyre, Bobby Lashley, and Baron Corbin at the “Fastlane” pay-per-view.

The victory came just under five months since Reigns announced to the WWE Universe that he was again battling leukemia after having been in remission for over a decade. He returned to WWE’s airwaves in late February to announce he was again in remission, but his first match back was not until Sunday night. Speaking with Variety, Reigns said it felt good to reunite with Ambrose and Rollins but he was a little apprehensive about getting back into the ring.

“I think a lot of it was nerves,” Reigns said. “Nothing prepares you for the ring like the ring. I’ve had some really good training sessions,

‘WWE Fastlane 2019′ PPV Review

  • Nerdly
Welcome to this review of WWE’s 2019 edition of Fastlane, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and we have a night of weird booking to get to, so get your eye-brow stocked, cocked and ready to fire off a shot of confusion, because this review is starting…why didn’t Sissy Spacek use her Carrie powers in Coal Miner’s Daughter?

The New Day (Big E and Xavier Woods) beat Shinsuke Nakamura & Rusev (w/Lana)

My Take: 2.5 out of 5 – This was good for what it was, but the match just felt like a formality. This match had to share its TV time with some footage of The Miz ushering his father to ring-side for his match later in the card. At least they got to do a few nice moves.

The Usos (Jimmy and Jey): [Still Champions] beat The Miz & Shane McMahon – SmackDown Tag Team Championship Match

My Take:

Becky Lynch and Kofi Kingston Take Similar paths to WrestleMania

Mike McMahon Mar 11, 2019

The roads to WrestleMania for Becky Lynch and Kofi Kingston are strikingly similar, with an injection of McMahon influence ...

Vince McMahon has ripped a page out of the Kevin Sullivan school of booking pro wrestling.

Personally, I was a fan of Sullivan's booking in WCW, especially in the mid-'90s when Nitro first hit the airwaves and the Nwo was running roughshod over the entire show.

Sullivan's style was to book as much heat as possible. Kevin Nash once described it in an interview as a balloon. You needed to book heat to get the balloon to rise, and then once that balloon is full of heat, you get the loudest pop possible when the babyface finally comes back and gets their win in the end.

After last night's Fastlane show, WWE is doing this with two of its very high-profile matches heading into next month's WrestleMania

WWE Smackdown Live – March 5th 2019: Results & Review

  • Nerdly
Welcome to this week’s Smackdown Live review, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and I have school in the morning, so let’s get to it. Chop, chop. Is that a cooking reference? Chop, chop? Who cares? Mark Hamill had to campaign to have a chance to talk to C3PO at the end of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. I’m not kidding. Rian Johnson didn’t want those two characters to talk to each other. The robots are what got Luke involved with the Star Wars stuff in the first place. “Hey, 3Po, thanks a lot @$$-hole. My dad, the charcoal grill with legs, chopped my hand off. I almost banged my sister. Also, my nephew is trying to kill me. To think, if you hadn’t come along, all of those things would never have happened.” Okay, let’s see if Becky Lynch gets mauled by Charlotte Flair,

The Shield officially reunites on Monday Night Raw, set up in a WWE Fastlane match

The WWE did what everyone knew they were going to do on Monday Night Raw this week. Despite teasing it the entire episode, The Shield reunited for the WWE Fastlane PPV. It all started when the show opened and Roman Reigns came to the ring. He said that it was time to take back “our yard” and then called out Seth Rollins. Rollins came to the ring and said that he knows what Roman Reigns wants and he agrees that he deserves to be in the Universal title match. However, Reigns said that was not what he wants. He believes […]

Could Kofi Kingston Be Bound For WrestleMania Title Match?

Mike McMahon Feb 27, 2019

Kingston was pulled from his Fastlane championship match by Vince McMahon on SmackDown ...

WWE chairman Vince McMahon made an appearance on last night's episode of SmackDown Live to announce that Kofi Kingston, who was scheduled to face WWE Champion Daniel Bryan at Fastlane in two weeks for the championship, was being pulled from the match and will be replaced by the returning Kevin Owens.

On the face, this seems like a blow for Kingston, who has been receiving a groundswell of support in recent weeks, stemming from his one-hour performance in a gauntlet match on SmackDown and then his showing at WWE's Elimination Chamber special earlier this month.

But this is likely an indication that Kingston's push is about to get much larger.

First, getting pulled by McMahon in the manner he did gives sympathy to the Kingston character. He had the rug pulled out from under

WWE SmackDown 03/20/18 – The Good, The Bad, The Amazing

Liam Hoofe rounds up this week’s SmackDown Live…

The Amazing

Yes Yes Yes!

Okay, things are going to be a little different this week. Simply putting the return of Daniel Bryan into the ‘good’ column would have felt like a misjustice. The return of Daniel Bryan to in-ring action in the WWE is a special moment for fans the world over.

Wrestling is so often a silly sport, but there are moments from time to time that you watch and can’t help be moved by. Moments you know will stick with you forever. Most of these moments, such as the exact moment Edge choked up and told the wrestling world that he was being made to retire are heartbreaking, they bring a lump to your throat and a tear to your eye. On last night’s SmackDown, though, the feeling of pure joy when Daniel Bryan made his

Daily Wrestling News Roundup – Major Title Change at Fastlane, Wrestlemania Match Set, Jeff Hardy Arrested

Liam Hoofe with a round-up of the latest wrestling news…

Major Title Change at Fastlane

At last night’s WWE Fastlane event, Randy Orton defeated Bobby Roode to win the United States Championship. This was Orton’s first Us title win, and makes him a grand-slam champion in the WWE. Orton won the match, which was a good encounter, with an Rko out of nowhere, and was attacked post-match by Jinder Mahal, presumably setting up a triple threat for the Us title at Wrestlemania.

Wrestlemania Match Set

Elsewhere on the Fastlane card, Charlotte successfully defended her women’s title against Ruby Riott in one of the night’s best matches. Following her victory, Charlotte was interrupted by Asuka, who came down to the ring, squared up to her, and pointed at the Wrestlemania sign, setting up the long rumoured match between the pair.

WWE Fastlane 2018 Review

Liam Hoofe reviews WWE Fastlane 2018…

WWE Smackdown took its last stop on the road to Wrestlemania at Fastlane last night. After weeks of underwhelming build, could the show deliver on the night? Let’s break down each match and find out.

Shinsuke Nakamura Defeated Rusev

While this match may not have had much of a build, Shinsuke and Rusev are two of the most over-superstars on the Smackdown roster, and it was a good move to have them open the show. The two men worked a solid opening bout, with Rusev’s style complimenting Shinsuke and giving him one of his best PPV outings in the WWE.

The result was clear to see from the opening bell, but the work in the ring, combined with a positive crowd reaction made this a really enjoyable watch. Even though the result was predictable, Rusev managed to look strong throughout the bout by scoring multiple near falls,
