Storyline

Twelve finalists and/or future singers (six men and six women) who were selected from America, compete in a talent contest in which they were asked to sing any song they like on this "Star Search" clone. After each song that was sung, the judges, Abdul, Jackson and Cowell, then critique that finalist's chosen song. After each show's ending, America must vote for a finalist to whom they really think their performance is good using this AT&T (now Cingular Wireless) or any other cellular phone to cast votes with. Once the votes are locked in, the judges and America decides who has the most and the least amount of votes, and the contestant with the least amount of votes is eliminated, and it goes on each week's show until the winner is crowned as "American Idol," where he/she wins a recording contract worth up to $1,000,000. The rest of the other finalists to whom they have been voted off before (the runner-up) also get recording contracts, too. Written by Gary Richard Collins II (gcollinsii@aol.com)

Trivia

Two brothers from Denver named Jimmy and Scott Osterman were among the hopefuls at the "American Idol 2" tryouts in Austin, Texas. Their audition, which included a cringe-making version of Paula Abdul's "Opposites Attract", had judge Simon Cowell about to deliver a scathing putdown when the pair revealed themselves to be Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly in disguise and that Cowell was the victim of a practical joke for their show Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway (2002). McPartlin and Donnelly are also the hosts of Pop Idol (2001) the original British show from which "American Idol" is adapted, and for which Cowell also serves as a judge. See more »

I want to respond to everyone
7 March 2003 | by Brandy-28See all my reviews

As a person who has been in the entertainment business for years and has - on more than occasion - auditioned - I can tell you that Simon's comments are not that bad. Real producers, directors and casting people are more horrible than Simon Cowell - trust me. If these people really want a career in the entertainment business - they better get used too it. Because - trust me - this will not be the first time someone like Cowell - will be telling them they suck or they need to loose 10 pounds.

Anyway, I would like to see Clay Aiken win. This guy - truly just blows me away. I was wondering the same as Randy - where does that voice come from. This guy is truly amazing and extremely gifted.

Can anyone tell me what happened to Chip Days? (The black guy with the braided hair) He was in trouble with the law?
