Storyline

"Arthur Ashe: citizen of the world celebrates the life of a man who could have achieved immortality on the strength of his tennis accomplishments aloneleading the U.S. Davis Cup team to its first title in five years, and becoming the first black tennis player to capture a Grand Slam title when he won the U.S. Open.

But Arthur Ashe didn't want to be known as just a tennis star. He was a devoted advocate of human rights, using the power of his unique position to become a crusader for civil rights, an outspoken opponent of South African apartheid, an advocate for people with AIDS and much more.

America's premiere sportswriter Frank Deford joins HBO Sports' award-winning documentary unit to present this inspirational tribute narrated by Ossie Davis. Friends and admirers sharing their insights and memories of Arthur Ashe's life and career include Nelson Mandela, Billie Jean King, Bryant Gumbel and John McEnroe." -From the back of the box.
