Pop Culture Thoughts

Just as it started hitting its stride with "Rapunzel" and "Rumplestiltskin," "Faerie Tale Theatre" ends up stumbling pretty hard here with this dull, repetitive and uninspired adaptation of "The Nightingale." In theory, having Mick Jagger play the Emperor sounds interesting but in practice it's inappropriate and distracting, while co-star Barbara Hershey fades into the background. Bud Cort seems to be having the time of his life and his kinetic energy is the only shot of life in the arm this unfortunate episode has.
