After the the space shuttle Columbia disintegrated during re-entry, trailers for the film were recalled to remove a brief scene of a space shuttle making an emergency landing (as this was felt to be to reminiscent of the recent event, but the producers stated that the sequence wouldn't be removed from the actual film. As a body enters the interior of a large mass, such as the Earth or any other planet, the force of gravity begins to decrease at a linear rate, and reaches zero at the center of the planet. With the ship hovering directly above the inner core the gravitational force would be ~4.55m/s^2, so the actors should fall half as fast as on the surface. (For comparison, the gravity at the surface of the moon's is 1.62m/s^2, and at the surface of the earth is 9.8m/s^2). In the film, they walk around as if under the influence of normal gravity experienced on the surface of the Earth. See more »

How do you jump start the Earth's core? Well, if you want to find out (and have a few laughs in between) all you need to do is watch 'The Core'...
Yes, it's stupid, yes, it makes no sense, yes, the science is flawed, and yes, it's impossible. Nevertheless, I have to say I enjoyed watching this movie. It's one of those 'get a beer and some popcorn, turn your brain off and enjoy the afternoon' type of pictures. If you are not pretentious and take this film for what it is, you are more likely than not to enjoy it as I did.
All in all, this is a classic disaster flick, and for a disaster flick, this is above average.
