For the past four years, J.K. Rowling has had a tradition on Twitter of apologizing for killing off particular characters from the Harry Potter series. This year, Rowling apologizes for what may have been the saddest death of them all: Dobby the House Elf.

On May 2nd, 2015, the 17th anniversary of the Battle of Hogwarts featured in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, J.K. Rowling has made a tradition of it since then, apologizing for the death of Remus Lupin in 2016 and the death of Severus Snape in 2017. This year's apology is for Dobby, who may not have died in the Battle of Hogwarts, but whose death still rattled fans all the same.

“It’s that anniversary again,” Rowling tweeted on Tuesday. “This year, I apologise for killing someone who didn’t die during the #BattleofHogwarts, but who laid down his life to save the people who’d win it. I refer, of course, to Dobby the house elf.”

“It’s been a great year and I’m enjoying every moment of it,” says Branagh, who will be honored with an imprint ceremony Oct. 26 in the Tcl Chinese Theatre forecourt. “Doing ‘Dunkirk’ was an experience I’ll never forget, and considering that I loved Sidney Lumet’s original and Agatha Christie’s novel, I’m excited to be bringing this new version of ‘Orient Express’ to life. I love train films and confined thrillers, and by doing it in 70mm, we really wanted to put the audience on that

Harry Potter's Childhood Home Goes Up for Sale
If you're a huge Harry Potter fan and have been looking for a new place to live, you might be in luck. That is, assuming you have roughly $1.3 million lying around to spare. The Potter cottage in Godric's Hollow, as seen in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, is currently on the market. But the house isn't cheap, so the lucky fan of the wizarding world who manages to purchase this home is going to be one with a lot of money.

The Potter house is a 14th-century cottage in the medieval village of Lavenham, England, just north of London. The home includes six bedrooms, two kitchens, and a drawing room. That's right, two kitchens. At least you're getting your money's worth if you're putting down more than $1 million to live in Harry Potter's old house. That said, anyone looking to buy this house is probably going to

Top Ten Movie Franchises Based on Books

  • Cinelinx
For as long as there have been movies, there have been movies based on books. This is a look at the best movie franchises that are either based on a book or several books.

It’s one thing to have a movie that is based on a book. It happens all the time. It’s more rare to have an entire franchise of films based on a book or set of books. Over the last two decades, it seems like we have been seeing more and more franchises emerge that are based on books. This seems to be happening for a few reasons. First, Hollywood is more than ever looking for established properties on which to base films. Book, have been and always will be one of the best established properties for a movie to be based upon. Second, if the books have a big following, chances are that the

Best ‘Harry Potter’ Book Plotlines and Scenes Left Out of the Movies

Exactly 20 years ago, J.K. Rowling’s “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” hit bookshelves, marking the birth of a massive franchise, both in literature and on the big screen.

The films are lauded by fans by being largely faithful to Rowling’s beloved books, but there are a few key plotpoints that many wish had made it into the movies. In honor of the 20th anniversary milestone, Variety breaks down some of the biggest omissions.

S.P.E.W.

Ask any Hermione Granger fan what the biggest injustice of the “Harry Potter” movies was, and they’ll likely tell you S.P.E.W. Hermione founded S.P.E.W. — Society for the Promotion of Elvish Welfare — after witnessing the gross treatment of house-elves at the 1994 Quidditch World Cup. While the movement was highlighted briefly in the movies, thanks in large part to Dobby, S.P.E.W. saw Hermione as a champion for equal rights

Why Swimfan Is the Most Underrated Thriller of the 2000s

Why Swimfan Is the Most Underrated Thriller of the 2000s
Fifteen years ago, Swimfan came to the big screen. Made for $10 million, Swimfan grossed $34 million worldwide. This tale of a swimmer (Jesse Bradford) who engages the wrong girl (Erika Christensen) in a one night stand, was essentially Fatal Attraction for the teen set. And, as hyperbolic as this may sound, it was also the best film of 2002. Even if it doesn't make IMDb's most underrated list for the Aughts.

Okay, so it came nowhere near an Academy Award nomination. Hell, it didn't even pick up an MTV Movie Awards nod. Does anybody believe that the best picture winner for any given year is really The best picture? If we ignore that idea altogether, then it is plausible Swimfan was indeed the best overall film released all throughout 2002. It may not have done the biggest box office, barely anyone remembers it now, but what it did in a cerebral sense, and with its visceral imagery,
