Michael Ouweleen Named President Of Adult Swim
Michael Ouweleen, a 20-year Turner networks veteran, has been named President of Adult Swim. The appointment is effective this summer when former Freeform president Tom Ascheim joins Warner Bros. as President, Kids, Young Adults and Classics. Ouweleen will report to him.

Ouweleen, Previously Evp/ Chief Marketing Officer, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim and Boomerang, was named interim president of Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, Boomerang and TCM in November 2019 following the exit of Christina Miller. Ouweleen’s job morphed into interim head of the Warner Bros. Kids, Young Adults and Classics Division once the unit was formed earlier this month and Ascheim’s appointment was announced. Ouweleen will continue in that capacity for the next couple of months, reporting to Ann Sarnoff, Chair and CEO, Warner Bros.

Michael Ouweleen has been named the president of Adult Swim.

He will remain in his current role as interim head of the Warner Bros. Kids, Young Adults and Classics Division until this summer. Earlier this month, Warner Bros. named Freeform president Tom Ascheim to that role, which he will begin in July. Ouweleen will report to Ascheim.

At Adult Swim, Ouweleen will be responsible for all aspects of content planning, development, windowing, marketing and creative for Adult Swim and its properties globally across all company-owned platforms and third-party partners. Ouweleen was one of the original creative voices for Adult Swim when it first launched as a late-night programming block on Cartoon Network in 2001.

Cartoon Network veteran Michael Ouweleen has been promoted to president of Adult Swim.

Ouweleen has been with Cartoon Network and Adult Swim for more than 20 years, most recently in the role of chief marketing officer for Cartoon Network, Adult Swim and Boomerang.

Cartoon Network and Adult Swim operations were moved out of Turner and under the Warner Bros. umbrella following AT&T’s acquisition of parent company Time Warner in 2018. In November, Ouweleen was tapped as interim head of Warner Bros. Kids, Young Adults and Classics unit. Earlier this month, former Freeform president Tom Ascheim was named president of that division.

Ouweleen will report to Ascheim and Warner Bros. chairman-ceo Ann Sarnoff. He will continue to be based in Atlanta.

The Viacom network has ordered a spinoff following Paget Brewster’s Birdgirl, who becomes CEO of the fictional Sebben & Sebben law firm that Harvey Birdman works at.

Here is the official description of the show, per Adult Swim: After being named CEO of the world’s largest and most non-sensical corporation, Sebben & Sebben, Judy Ken Sebben (aka Birdgirl) has to find a way to maintain her work/superhero life balance. Adult Swim animator and voice actor Clay Martin Croker died yesterday at the age of 54, as reported by Adult Swim creative director Jason DeMarco and contributor/rapper Mc Chris. Croker is best known for voicing both Zorak and Moltar on the long-running Cartoon Network talk show parody “Space Ghost Coast to Coast,” a series credited for establishing Adult Swim, spawning four separate spin-off shows — “Aqua Teen Hunger Force,” “Sealab 2021,” “The Brak Show,” and “Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law” — and produced the majority of the writers and staff who still currently work for the alternative programming block.

True Detective lifted the lid on the mystery of Ray’s maybe death after an entire week of ferocious speculation to reveal Colin Farrell’s suicidally droopy mustache, a sight which avoids occasioning disappointment only in the respect that at least you’re not seeing it in the mirror. It’s not a worse show for having chickened out on pursuing the exciting byroad it might have gone down by killing its top-billed actor two hours into its run, but it is exactly as bad as it’s always been. Even the opening sequence, what amounts to an extended Twin Peaks reference, can’t hide the fact that there’s precious little going on in season 2.

Rick And Morty Review: Dan Harmon’s Animated Adult Swim Comedy Has Room to Grow

Cartoon Network's Adult Swim block of programming has always pushed the envelop when it comes to comedic content. Bizarre and abstract don't even begin to explain series like Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law, Aqua Teen Hunger Force or Squidbillies. But what all of these shows have in common is both newness (either a new take on an old cartoon, like Harvey, or an entirely new concept, like Aqua Teen) and charm. Squidbillies is full of vulgar and violent humor, but it's grounded by the singularity of a character like Early, with his horrible homespun wisdom, as well as the show's biting satire. All this to say that when it comes to the new half hour comedy Rick and Morty, well … hit the jump for more. What Rick and Morty does have is pedigree. There’s a lot on the plate of today’s cartoon junkie; the modern range of offerings means that, really, one is spoiled for choice a lot of the time. However, does this jostling for our precious viewing time take in to consideration the quality of what is being served? Does the presentation step beyond a desire to sell an audience toys? Is there a certain something that will stick in the mind, genuinely reflecting and yet effectively parodying? Is there meaning or worth beyond the prima facie presentation?

These are questions that bear analysis, should an individual desire to derive a multilayered satisfaction from their enjoyment. It’s great to sit and watch animation, but it’s even better to share it with others, on an understanding that there are strong reasons why the thing you’re watching is a perennial favourite that weathers repeat viewings.

Jonathan Levine’s 50/50 is finally on the cusp of hitting the big screen in the UK. America has had it for some time now, and I was lucky enough to catch it last month at the London Film Festival (and thought it deserved every one of the 5 stars I gave it in my review), and now its release is literally just a day away, coming out on Friday, tomorrow.

The patron comic book of Monday Mix-Up has always been The Brave And The Bold, a comic book that delighted in mashing up weird combinations of characters, usually Batman with characters that made almost no sense to combine with, like Deadman, Kamandi, Jonah Hex, Sgt.
