The offbeat adventures of Courage, a cowardly dog who must overcome his own fears to heroically defend his unknowing farmer owners from all kinds of dangers, paranormal events and menaces that appear around their land.
The series is centered around the exploits of two young children-the optimistic, dim-witted, and kindhearted Billy, and the dark, ill-tempered, sinister, and very intelligent Mandy. After cheating at a limbo match against the Grim Reaper (out of retaliation for putting the limbo rod too low for them to go under), he is enslaved in a perpetual, unwanted friendship with the children, who use his magical abilities and supernatural powers to venture into supernatural locations or environments, such as the underworld, inhabited by an assortment of grotesque monstrous beasts. The pair also may use Grim's enormously strong supernatural abilities or ties with a number of beastly characters to achieve goals or desires for themselves with grotesque, altered, or twisted end results. Famed fictional monsters including Dracula, the Wolfman, and the bogeyman are also comically depicted in the series, which also includes the characters of the nerdy, awkward Irwin and the snobby, stuck-up, spoiled ... The episode "Smell of Vengeance" was to have a scene where Hector Con Carne's Stinker Ray attacks the World Trade Center Towers, and the people would jump from the buildings, but the scene was hurriedly removed after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. See more »

I can't believe I used to have a crush on her, back when she was in that "Valley Girl" phase.
I think we'd all like to forget that phase.

I love this TV show. Its dark theme is such a nice alternative from all the other cartoons on Cartoon Network. The series follows Billy and Mandy as they torment the Grim Reaper after coming to 'own' him after he attempted to take away Billy's pet hamster.
The idea of taking something as harrowing as death itself and turning it into a kids cartoon is a really good one and works extremely well. The fact that this show could so easily have been chilling really benefits it. If the theme was taken the other way and told darker this show would make a great film.
The character of Mandy in particular is so refreshing. In comparison to Billy who is basically an identikit of every single other cartoon character on the channel; stupid, clumsy etc, Mandy is a sinister little girl and so entertaining to watch. She is the perfect match for the Grim Reaper. You can always can count on her to do one horribly twisted little thing each episode is hysterical.
I strongly recommend this cartoon, if only to see the deadpan little Mandy. Shes so evil.
