A Must See for All Colombians, Colombian Residents, Visitors and Tourists!

............................................................from Pasto,Colombia...Via: L.A. CA., CALI, COLOMBIA and ORLANDO, FL

What an absurd and ridiculous plot! Who could possibly be gullible enough to believe....?....What? It's a true story? Oh...OK, Never mind! GREAT, engrossing story! But wait a minute...Is it REALLY a True Story?!?!? ESMERALDERO has a very authentic Colombian look, sound and feel to it, that's for sure! I have lived there for 25 years. But listen up: This "Documentary" (It's NOT) revolves around Eishy Hayata, a Japanese businessman who arrived in Colombia via Los Angeles, and built an Emerald Empire in Colombia (The World's biggest producer of Emeralds).

My skepticism stems from discovering all of the following: It's based on his auto-biography. His daughter, Eva Hiroto Hayata, is listed as "Co-Producer" (Read-Bankroller) of the project. It doesn't take much to figure out that's just so her father isn't listed as such! She appears, playing (who else?) herself. She is also credited for Art Direction and Screenplay.

Of course, Eishy plays himself from the '90's onward. Oddly, a Colombian actor, Lucho Velasco, was cast as Hayata in the '70's and '80's, and so when we get to the 90's...Please queue The VAPORS: "I'm Turning Japanese!" There is NOTHING about Eishy Hayata or the movie in Wikipedia. So as to the veracity of what's depicted on-screen...Your guess is as good as mine!

So why the 8* rating?...You're probably asking yourself! OK, fair enough. There is no other film I can recollect, of the many thousands I've seen, that offer up such an authentic laundry list mix of Colombian elements, but skewed slightly, given a mildly surreal spin, by the Japanese/American HAYATA! Unless you're Colombian or have lived there many years, as I have, it's hard to imagine many people rating this over 5 or 6 Stars. GUARANTEE you one thing, though...Everybody who sees Esmeraldero will agree: "Well...It certainly IS Different!"

....ENJOY/DISFRUTELA!

Any comments, questions or observations, in English or Español, are most welcome!
