Beautiful Wrestlers: Down for the Count

This is a Japanese pink version of Rocky. There is more than usual amount of nudity & average amount of sex scenes. The story & plot were interesting but didn't take it as far as it should or I would have rated it a 7. But it's difficult to do in an hour & ten minutes. The wrestling scenes were done well. Believable at the least.

Focused on the main character who gets into college wrestling. Of course it gets into training. A love story develops as well. Finally we get to the final wrestling bout. So if you change boxing to female wrestling, the story came from Rocky although the story doesn't follow everything exactly. The main actress I thought was excellent. The rest of the cast, some were very good, some were just okay. In the end it was an enjoyable movie, just not fantastic.

First I need to point out the high score I gave to this movie. You shouldn't compare it with Shawshank redemption or Schindler's list. This movie doesn't take itself too seriously and neither should you. You have to view it in the genre and time period when it was made. Technically this movie might be more accurately scored at a 5 or 6. The fight scenes aren't always pixel perfect, the acting is mediocre and sometimes shows some Japanese style exaggerations. However that being said, I thoroughly enjoyed it from the beginning till the end. It's lighthearted and funny and I could have easily watched another hour of this without getting bored. If you're a fan of wrestling then I would highly recommend this. However I do feel obliged to point out that certain scenes might not be suited for younger audiences.
