Fox Orders ‘Proven Innocent,’ ‘The Cool Kids’ to Series

Fox has ordered David Elliot and Danny Strong’s drama project and comedy “The Cool Kids” to series.

Formerly titled “Infamy,” “Proven Innocent” is a legal drama set in an wrongful conviction firm. Led by a fierce and fearless female lawyer with a hunger for justice, the team reopens investigations, putting their own lives in danger to exonerate the innocent that were ‘proven’ guilty. Our lead’s motivation comes from her infamous past; as a young adult she was found guilty and later exonerated in a high-profile case in which she became a tabloid sensation, household name and national celebrity.

Netflix has renewed “Alexa & Katie” for a second season, the streaming giant announced Monday.

The first season of the series launched on March 23. The multi-camera sitcom follows the titular best friends through their freshman year of high school. Alexa (Paris Berelc) is undergoing cancer treatment, but makes it through thanks to her outgoing personality and the help of her best friend Katie (Isabel May). Video: On This Day, March 28: Happy Birthday, Reba McEntire!

Ms. McEntire, the third in a family of four children, grew up on a cattle ranch in the small, rural town of Chockie, Oklahoma. Her father expected all the children to work on the ranch and Ms. McEntire began riding horses at the age of three. By the time she was seven, she was gathering cattle from before daylight until after dark. In what little spare time she had, McEntire also competed in rodeos as a barrel racera sport she continued until she was 21. As a child, Ms. McEntire's mother taught her and her three siblings how to sing and harmonize as they traveled to and from their father's rodeo performances. While in high school, Ms. McEntire and her siblings formed their own group, The Singing McEntires, and performed frequently at rodeos, clubs, and dance halls. Ms. McEntire attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University, graduating with a major in elementary education and a minor in music.

Fox has ordered a pilot for a potential comedy series from the team behind “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” Variety has learned.

Titled “Cool Kids,” the multi-camera series would follow three guy friends in a retirement community who are the top dogs until they’re blown out of the water by the newest member of the community, a female rebel whose ready to challenge their standings. “It’s Always Sunny” stars Charlie Day, Rob McElhenney, and Glenn Howerton will executive produce along with “It’s Always Sunny” and “The Mick” executive producer Nick Frenkel. Day and Paul Fruchbom, who co-created the series, will write the pilot, with Fruchbom also serving as co-executive producer. Kevin Abbott–whose past credits include producing and writing for “Last Man Standing,” “Reba,” and “Roseanne”– will executive produce and serve as showrunner. 20th Century Fox Television will produce in association with FX Productions.
