Storyline

Hollywood comedian/actor Pauly Shore loses everything: his house, nobody in Hollywood wants to represent him, he moves back home with his mom and is now parking cars at the Comedy Store. Then one night when he's up in his mom's loft, a dead famous comedian appears who tells Pauly to kill himself cause he'll go down as a comedic genius who died before his time. Pauly then fakes his own death, and the media goes crazy. Celebrities are talking about him on MTV and girls are fighting over him on Jerry Springer. It's everything that he wanted...his plan worked. A week or so later the LAPD is tipped off about his whereabouts and they break down the door of the seedy motel room that he's hiding out in and throw him in LA County's celebrity wing. An inspirational story
5 February 2005 | by Loshi the ToasterSee all my reviews

Pauly Shore is Dead is inspirational not because of the story it tells, but because of the story of the film and it's creator. I only bought the DVD on the most extreme suggestions of people I respected, due to my hatred of the man's previous performances. All I can say is that I was stunned.

Somebody that I viewed as talentless turned out a performance that is nothing short of classic. It's probably been 3 years or more since I laughed so much at a single movie. Everyone, from Pauly to every single cameo, makes fun of themselves. That is what makes this movie great. Whenever you see a celebrity, you know they are going to make fun of themselves and not try to put themselves over. That kind of selfless comedy is what makes this film great.

I guess sometimes people who get famous for shtick really are talented beyond what we have seen. This movie proves, to me, that in at least one case that is true.
