Storyline

The movie Logan's Run (1976) depicts a supposedly Utopian society in the 23rd century, but one where, as producer Saul David puts it, "there is a worm in the apple". The filmmakers use current technology and ideals of pleasure to depict this perfect future. Director Michael Anderson finds meshing these two worlds an exciting challenge, especially in trying to create something that has never been seen before in the movies. The studio's technology department plays a key role in creating Anderson and David's vision. The movie's stars, Michael York and Jenny Agutter, provide their take on the movie, their roles and working with each other and with fellow co-star Richard Jordan. The filmmakers also need to create the antithesis of the modern Utopian world for the scenes taking place outside of the domed world. Written by Huggo

Creating Utopia with an age limit...
19 June 2009 | by DoylenfSee all my reviews

MGM liked to promote their new movies with short subjects that told more than the average trailer was capable of doing. This is a behind-the-scenes look at LOGAN'S RUN starring Michael York and Richard Jordan, a sci-fi film directed by Michael Anderson.

Haven't seen the film, but I get the impression that it's largely a collection of visual effects to create a Utopian universe with a single flaw--an age limit. Oddly enough, the design of this Utopia looks suspiciously similar to the designs on display at the "World of Tomorrow" featured at the N.Y. World's Fair of 1939. Gives credence to the motto, "Nothing is new under the sun." Director Michael Anderson is shown putting Michael York and Richard Jordan through their paces, as well as Jenny Agutter. They react to the various effects as soon as he calls "Action!" and the laser lights and image techniques burst into a full display of pyrotechnics.

It's obviously a film dominated by its special effects and is probably a big favorite among sci-fi fans.
