Night Terrors in the walls as The Dead Files visits Missouri and Haunted Castle House

This week on The Dead Files, Steve Dischiavi and Amy Allan head to Missouri where paranormal activity is keeping the customers of one bed-and-breakfast awake at night. Brumley, Missouri, might be a small village with less than 100 people but it is also home to the Haunted Castle House Bed and Breakfast, that claims to be the most haunted house in the Midwest. 'Chappie', 'Clouds of Sils Maria' and 'The Cobbler' in Today's MPAA Ratings

While I'm not the big cheerleader of Neill Blomkamp so many others are, I will commend him for the fact he makes the movies he wants to make and he's not making test audience-approved, PG-13 material and while I have zero interest in seeing Chappie, kudos once again for giving us another R-rated film where in the hands of others it would most likely be a soft lob down the middle, PG-13 waste. Also in today's bulletin we have Olivier Assayas' Clouds Of Sils Maria starring Juliette Binoche and Kristen Stewart. This one has received plenty of good word of mouth and seems like a must see once it arrives in April. On the flip side of that we have a rating for Thomas McCarthy's The Cobbler starring Adam Sandler, which walked away from the Toronto Film Festival last year as the most loathed release of the fest.

The Sad, Final Days of Florida's Miracle Strip Amusement Park
First built in 1963 in Panama City, Florida, the Miracle Strip Amusement Park was a small park across the street from the beach, whose claim to fame was the Starliner wooden roller coaster, the first roller coaster in Florida and the only ride to have existed throughout the park's duration. The park was segregated until the late 1960s, which is about when expansion on the park started, and more rides were added throughout the 1970s and 1980s.

The Miracle Strip Amusement Park closed in September 2004, due to waning attendance and increased expenses. Many of the existing rides were sold off to other amusement parks. Those that remained turned into the terrifyingly beautiful abandoned constructions you see here.

The Purge to Headline the Inaugural Stanley Film Festival, May 2-5 in Estes Park, Co

Hot on the heels of their first wave announcement, the amazing crew behind the Stanley Film Festival, which runs at the iconic and historic Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Co May 2-5, has selected The Purge as its opening night film.

Paired with the festival’s opening night “Shining Gala” party, The Purge stars Ethan Hawke, Lena Headey, Max Burkholder, and Edwin Hodge, and is produced by Blumhouse Productions.

The Stanley Film Festival’s Short Films and Special Presentations Announced

After announcing a solid feature line-up, The Stanley Film Festival has announced their short film screenings and special presentations. They have also revealed that their opening night film will be The Purge:

April 9, 2013 (Denver, Co) – The Stanley Film Festival (Sff), presented by NBC Universal’s Chiller, announced today its Opening Night film, Centerpiece film, special presentations and shorts programs for the inaugural event that will run May 2 – 5, 2013 in Estes Park, Colo. Celebrating the best in independent horror cinema, Sff will showcase a full slate of features, shorts, panels, student competitions and special events – with Festival headquarters set at The Stanley Hotel. The haunted landmark opened in 1909 and was the inspiration for Stephen King’s Overlook Hotel in The Shining.

The Stanley Film Festival opens Thursday, May 2, with a Gala Presentation of Universal Pictures’ The Purge, a speculative thriller directed by James DeMonaco and starring Ethan Hawke, Lena Headey, Adelaide Kane and Max Burkholder.

One Little Guy Against the Forces of Evil... See the Trailer for Gnome in the Haunted Castle

Lone Gnome is on a mission. The little guy has to take on a world of baddies to save his people from being turned to stone in the upcoming animated film Gnome in the Haunted Castle. He's got the attitude of Hobo With A Shotgun, but he's got a cute pointy, red hat.

Fly Me To The Moon

In keeping with the increasing specialization of entertainment media, seniors who want to bond with their 4-year-old grandkids now have their very own film, the 3-D non-spectacular Fly Me To The Moon. The crudely made CGI effort follows three adventurous young flies who stow away on Apollo 11's 1969 moon shot, hoping to be the first insects in space. But the computer animation looks 20 years old, and the story's crass Cold War stereotypes feel even older. Fly Me To The Moon at least makes interesting use of 3-D: Startling jabs at viewers' eyes are replaced by long tracking shots that venture deep into the screen. 3D Man Stassen Preps Horror Tour

Ben Stassen, the Belgium director behind such 3D ventures as Haunted Castle and the upcoming Fly Me to the Moon, an animated story about houseflies aboard the Apollo 11, is prepping a new project that will hopefully be of interest to us fans called Horror Tour.

No plot details, or any kind of details for that matter, were revealed, but THR did state that Hour Tour would be a stereoscopic live-action film, and he plans to start shooting it next summer. So it could be quite a while before we hear anything solid on it.

What I’m hoping for is twisted story about betrayal and revenge, all told from the perspective of a murder weapon. Or, since it’s called Horror Tour, maybe it’ll be a really technically advanced look at famous horror locations across the globe? When we know, you’ll know!
