The Broad Green Layoffs: Why Good Movies Aren’t Enough to Avoid The Startup Curse

When Wall Street billionaires Gabriel Hammond, 37, and his brother, Daniel, 33, launched independent producer-distributor Broad Green Pictures two summers ago, Hollywood was skeptical about its prospects. In a time when even the Weinsteins are struggling to survive, it was a strange time to reinvent a dying economic model.

Now Broad Green is laying off around 6 percent of its staff, all of whom work in the publicity department, the company confirmed to IndieWire. Broad Green’s publicity head Adam Keen, a former Warner Bros. publicity exec, has resigned. Marketing and communications personnel are traditionally the first casualties of cutbacks in Hollywood.

The layoffs were unsurprising. Ken Kwapis’s Sundance comedy “A Walk in the Woods” starring Robert Redford and Nick Nolte managed $30 million, but that couldn’t counterbalance films like Ramin Bahrani’s well-reviewed real estate thriller “99 Homes” ($1.7 million domestic) and Sarah Silverman’s depressive drama “I Smile Back” ($58K). Now, the

‘Ride Along 2′ Review

Stars: Ice Cube, Kevin Hart, Ken Jeong, Olivia Munn, Benjamin Bratt, Tika Sumpter, Bruce McGill, Sherri Shepherd, Arturo del Puerto, Carlos Gómez | Written by Phil Hay, Matt Manfredi | Directed by Tim Story

Once again directed by Tim Story, who previously worked with Ice Cube on Barbershop and the first film in this series, Ride Along 2 is yet another Ice Cube starring, stereotypical buddy-comedy and like all good buddy comedies it lives and dies by its cast. Last time the chemistry between Kevin Hart and Ice Cube felt stilted and forced, leaving this reviewer a little cold – will it be any different this time round?

Ride Along 2 picks up the story about a year after our heroes’ last adventure. Not content to work as a beat cop, Ben (Hart), a recent academy graduate, now aspires to be a detective like his soon-to-be brother-in-law. However, James (Cube) still doesn’t

We all know Sean “P. Diddy” Combs fell at the 2015 Bet Awards. Hilarious and countless memes all over social media have shown us that. And just like that, regardless of the reason, Diddy joined an illustrious list of slip-and-fall superstars that include Madonna, Shaquille O’Neal, Jennifer Lawrence and Diddy’s ex Jennifer Lopez. ‘Ride Along’ Blu-ray Review

Stars: Ice Cube, Kevin Hart, Tika Sumpter, Bruce McGill, Bryan Callen, Laurence Fishburne, Dragos Bucur, Gary Owen, Jacob Latimore, Jay Pharoah, Benjamin Flores Jr. | Written by Greg Coolidge, Jason Mantzoukas, Phil Hay, Matt Manfredi | Directed by Tim Story

As someone who absolutely adored the Ice Cube buddy cop comedy All About the Benjamins I was really looking forward to Cube’s latest buddy comedy Ride Along, especially given that it also stars man of the moment Kevin Hart, whose career is currently in take off. But then (at least here in the UK) All About the Benjamins was something of an underrated gem just waiting to be discovered by those who enjoy the genre; but with this film hitting the top of the Us box office it brings with it a ton of hype for its UK debut, which I had to wonder if it could ever live up to…

A Look Back at the Hits and Misses of Godzilla: The Album

It's hard not to get excited about the upcoming Godzilla reboot, but it's equally difficult to forget America's previous botched attempt at remaking the iconic monster. While I have nothing to say about Roland Emmerich's catastrophic misfire of a film that hasn't already been said countless times over the last 16 years...

I thought it would be fun to take a trip down memory lane to look at the film's soundtrack.

Let's set the scene: the year was 1998. You couldn't go anywhere without seeing a commercial, billboard, poster or memorabilia advertising Godzilla. The multi-pronged marketing strategy also included tie-in campaigns with Taco Bell and Edy's Ice Cream, among others.

It was a time when people still paid for music, as the transition from cassettes to CDs was being made, and movie soundtracks were a big deal. Artists would provide original songs for soundtracks, and you'd have to buy the entire

Review: 'Ride Along' squanders the genuine chemistry between Ice Cube and Kevin Hart

Review: 'Ride Along' squanders the genuine chemistry between Ice Cube and Kevin Hart
While I'm not sure I'd ever accuse Ice Cube of having any significant dramatic range as an actor, I like his presence on-screen, and I've enjoyed several of the action comedies he's starred in. I think "All About The Benjamins" is just plain fun, and Eva Mendes gives a fantastic comic performance in it. Cube's had several on-screen comic foils, and I'd say Chris Tucker in the first "Friday" remains the gold standard. That film worked as well as it did because the entire cast was strong and funny and worked perfectly off of one another, whether it's Tiny Lister or...

Who Is Oscar Isaac? 11 Movies Featuring the 'Inside Llewyn Davis' Star (Video)

  • Moviefone
Who is Oscar Isaac? He stars as a fictitious '60s folk singer in the new Coen Brothers' film "Inside Llewyn Davis," and although he's made plenty of films you've probably seen, he's seemingly come out of nowhere, so much so that a reporter at Cannes (where the film won the Grand Prix award) asked the actor, "Where have you come from?"

The 33-year-old was born in Guatemala, raised in Miami, and educated at Juilliard. He's been acting for more than 10 years, just in roles that haven't gotten him a lot of attention -- until now.

Even if you remember him from "Drive" or "Robin Hood," you've likely never heard him sing before, but he's actually been singing for years. Before breaking out as an actor, he sang and played lead guitar in the band The Blinking Underdogs.

Since you'll likely be seeing a lot more of Isaac, here's a
