Sex & Nudity

  • Lots of strong sexual references.
  • In one scene, Cindy tells her son that she had sex with her handicapped husband, Bob, four times for him.
  • We see Shaun's stepmother in a small bikini (with a towel around her waist) that shows cleavage. She somewhat comes on to Shaun when he shows up, and we later see her doing the same to a leaf blower worker who caresses her with his blower.
  • Two people make out in a car. You see them kiss and sex is later suggested.
  • Bud tells his ex-wife that Krista, his current wife, has been cheating on him and committing adultery. He eventually tells Cindy that he wants her back, they make out in the kitchen and is is later implied that they had sex.
  • Two people make out in a bed. Three people make out collectively at a funeral. Two women make out.

Violence & Gore

  • Almost none.
  • One of Shaun's closest friends, Lonny, dies in a surfing accident.
  • After Shaun grabs a high school counselor's shoulders stating it's her fault (after discovering she sent the wrong transcripts to Stanford that resulted in them rejecting his admission), she knees him in the crotch or gut, sending him to the floor, doubled over in pain.
  • Lance obliviously sets the admissions building of Stanford on fire.

  • At least 1 "f" word (and another incomplete one), 1 "s" word, 3 slang terms for sex ("get laid," "screwing around" and "banged"), 7 asses (1 used with hole and 1 seen in subtitles), 3 craps (1 seen in subtitles), 1 damn, 6 uses of "Oh my God," 2 each of "G-damn" and "Oh God" and 2 uses each of "God," "Jesus" and "Dear God" as exclamations. A dog humping a woman's leg. A woman flips "the bird" to a man.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Shaun's mother is an alcoholic. She drinks a lot to ease her depression and cover up the fact that she's miserable.
  • The older brother, Lance, is a total stoner. Many scenes make the audience assume that he is too high. In one part, he laughs at a Spongebob episode, hinting that he smoked weed.
  • Ashley accidentally gives Stanford's Dean of Admissions three pills of ecstasy. It is obvious that the Dean's perception and behavior has changed drastically.
