Elvira: Mistress of the Dark 2 May Become an Animated Movie
Cassandra Peterson believes that the future of Elvira is in animation. Back in 2019, the iconic actress teased that a possible sequel to Elvira, Mistress of the Dark was in the works. She said, "I'm giving this some serious thought. A Lot of people ask this question, so I'm thinking one more... we'll see!" However, it was later revealed that both Netflix and Shudder had passed on the opportunity to bring Elvira to a new generation.

It looks like Cassandra Peterson is being optimistic about the future of Elvira right now. "I have written a treatment and I just collaborated with someone, another writer, on a little more detailed treatment," she said. "I am honestly thinking that it is gonna go the way of animation now... I think it may have gone past the point of me wanting to do a live movie as Elvira." Cassandra Peterson has been doing a

Gialloween 2020: Torso is an Interesting Example of How Giallo Cinema Embraces and Embodies Different Characteristics

Gialloween 2020: Torso is an Interesting Example of How Giallo Cinema Embraces and Embodies Different Characteristics
[This October is "Gialloween" on Daily Dead, as we celebrate the Halloween season by diving into the macabre mysteries, creepy kills, and eccentric characters found in some of our favorite giallo films! Keep checking back on Daily Dead this month for more retrospectives on classic, cult, and altogether unforgettable gialli, and visit our online hub to catch up on all of our Gialloween special features!]

From the late 1960s to the early 1980s, the giallo film was a defining genre for Italian cinema. The giallo, for those unfamiliar, was born from literature; crime novellas published in Italy, and known for their yellow book covers, would focus on pulp fiction detective tales and crime stories. When the giallo style found its way into cinematic form, the genre would be most influenced by the exercise of sensationalized sex and violence rather than the crime procedural or mystery solving.

The giallo, in some forms of film during this Italian wave of horror, finds significantly more depth and complication than otherwise perceived. And there is no better example of the sensationalized and nuanced approach to this style of film than Sergio Martino’s 1973 film Torso. Alternatively known as Carnal Violence, or sometimes The Bodies Bear Traces of Carnal Violence, this film functions as both giallo and a slasher film,

Joe Ruby Dies: ‘Scooby Doo’ Co-Creator Was 87
Animator and Scooby Doo co-creator Joe Ruby has died. The co-founder of production company Ruby-Spears passed away in Westlake Village, CA on Wednesday. He was 87.

A rep for Ruby told Deadline that the animator died of natural causes after years of dealing with health issues.

The animator, who teamed with Ken Spears to create Dynomutt, Dog Wonder and Jabberjaw, was born in Los Angeles, Calif. on March 30, 1933. He began his animation career under Walt Disney Productions before shifting his focus to editing and producing.

After serving in the U.S. Army, Ruby met soon-to-be collaborator Spears at Hanna-Barbera Productions, where the two worked together to create multiple animated and live-action titles, including cartoon juggernaut Scooby Doo.

Ruby and Spears’ group of crime-solving teens and their anthropomorphic mascot first hit the screen on CBS in 1969. The series introduced Velma, Daphne, Shaggy, Fred and the beloved Scooby Doo to kids and cartoon enthusiasts across America,

Three Men and a Baby Remake Is Happening at Disney+ with Zac Efron

Three Men and a Baby Remake Is Happening at Disney+ with Zac Efron
Disney is moving forward with a Three Men and a Baby remake based on the 1980s classic comedy. What's more, they've tapped Zac Efron to star in the lead role. This comes as the studio is looking to beef up its streaming offerings in an aim to compete with Netflix in the direct-to-consumer marketplace. As such, this is being developed for the Disney+ streaming service and not as a theatrical release.

According to a new report, Zac Efron has boarded the project. It has not been revealed who, precisely, Efron will be playing. Tom Selleck, Steve Guttenberg and Ted Danson headlined the original. No director has been set yet, but Gordon Gray, who most recently worked on Ben Affleck's The Way Back, is on board to produce. Will Reichel (Hot Air) penned the screenplay for the remake. No details have been revealed in regards to how Reichel updated the story.

James Gunn's Original Scooby-Doo Script Had an 'Explicitly Gay' Velma

James Gunn's Original Scooby-Doo Script Had an 'Explicitly Gay' Velma
Although today James Gunn is best known as the creative force behind the McU's hugely popular Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, he is also responsible for writing the screenplay for the 2002 live-action Scooby Doo film. While that movie was not a huge success upon release, it has since come to be regarded as something of a cult classic. Recently, a fan asked Gunn on Twitter if he ever considered leaning into the 'Velma Dinkely is gay' fan theories while writing the script, and the filmmaker responded firmly in the affirmative.

"I tried! In 2001 Velma was explicitly gay in my initial script. But the studio just kept watering it down & watering it down, becoming ambiguous (the version shot), then nothing (the released version) & finally having a boyfriend (the sequel)."

Velma is the brains of the Mystery, Inc. gang that comprises of the lead characters of the Scooby-Doo franchise, based on the classic Hanna-Barbera animated television show.

The closure of cinemas in Australia, the Us and many other markets is resulting in a steady stream of movies going straight to digital platforms.

Among the latest titles that are bypassing cinemas are Universal’s comedy The King of Staten Island in the Us (although its status in Australia is unclear) and, worldwide, Warner Bros’ animated title Scoob! and Paramount’s comedy The Lovebirds.

Meanwhile Universal Pictures’ intention to release films in cinemas and on Premium VOD when cinemas re-open in the Us has aroused the ire of AMC Theatres, which operates 1,000 cinemas in the Us, Europe and the Middle East.

Touting the success of Universal/DreamWorks Animation’s Trolls World Tour, which raked in $US95 million in online rentals after bypassing cinemas, NBCUniversal CEO Jeff Shell told the Wall Street Journal: “As soon as theaters reopen,

WarnerMedia Is Rethinking Its Theatrical Movie Release Strategy
The model of theatrical distribution that we've known for years may well be a thing of the past. Currently, studios are wrestling with the ongoing production shutdown and movie theaters being temporarily closed in the interest of public health. When things do resume, whenever that may be, it's likely not going to be business as usual, according to WarnerMedia CEO John Stankey.

When AT&T merged with Warner Bros., they created a massive media conglomerate called WarnerMedia. Warner Bros. remains one of the biggest movie studios in the business. During a recent quarterly earnings call, John Stankey explained that they are currently rethinking things when it comes to theatrical releases in the future. Here's what Stankey had to say about it.
