Remembering Ssr as’Ms Dhoni: The Untold Story’ turns 4
The 2016 blockbuster, Ms Dhoni: The Untold Story, was released four years ago on this day. The film starring the late Sushant Singh Rajput was a huge hit upon release, and on Wednesday fans took to social media to recall how beautifully the late actor had portrayed the role of the former Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the biopic.

"#OnThisDay 2016, Ms Dhoni The Untold story released. We all went in as Dhoni Fan came out as Sushant Fan. Miss you Sushant," a user tweeted.

"I watched Ms Dhoni, the untold story as a fan of Mahi. After watching, it made me a biggest fan of Ssr.. Our reel Mahi," another user wrote on the microblogging site.

Directed by Neeraj Pandey, the sports drama became one of the biggest hits of 2016. The film also starred Kiara Advani, Disha Patani and Anupam Kher.

Last year, when the film turned three, Sushant

Bigfoot Saturdays: ‘Abominable’ and the Fluidity of Myth

[Continued from Part 1]

Take two of why I wanted to write about Bigfoot: Bigfoot has an uncommon amount of myth malleability.

This is related, of course, to his unknowability; the strokes of his mythology are broad and vague, so he can be made and molded to slip into essentially any story vaguely set neat a forest. There are very few parameters that must be set and even fewer rules that must be abided by or addressed in order for that character to work successfully in a piece of art. Certainly, as before, many monsters can be said to exhibit aspects of this elasticity, but again Bigfoot finds his unknowability to be crucial to his difference and uniqueness. Bigfoot exists essentially without context. His being is not defined, and as such he exhibits no strong predilection or resistance to changes. An empty vessel never overflows when water is placed inside, and it has no reaction to substances it holds.

The Most Insane Bigfoot & Yeti Movies Ever Made

The Most Insane Bigfoot & Yeti Movies Ever Made
Considering they're the best-known cryptids in history, the humanoids known variously as Sasquatch, Bigfoot, Yeti, the Abominable Snowman and so forth don't get much respect in modern cinema. While thousands of hours of film and video have been dedicated to these elusive man-beasts, there's something about the big dude that makes it nearly impossible for filmmakers to take him seriously, or even tell a semi-competent story about him. It's certainly not for a lack of trying; there have been nearly a hundred Bigfoot and Yeti movies released since the '50s. Old-fashioned giant monster romps, found-footage and slasher entries, feel-good family dramas, romantic comedies... even porno flicks. So why are nearly all of them so damn goofy? Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy these insane interpretations; in fact, the crazier they get, the more I dig 'em. So to honor this dubious cinematic legacy, here are two dozen of

Tadff ’11: ‘Monster Brawl’ strictly intended for fanboys

Monster Brawl

Directed by Jesse T. Cook

Written by Jesse T. Cook

2011, Canada

Last night, writer/director Jesse T. Cook had the honour of being the first Canadian filmmaker to open the Toronto After Dark Film Festival with his smackdown horror-comedy Monster Brawl.

In the spirit of pay-per-view wrestling and the Mortal Kombat video game, Monster Brawl brings some of the most iconic monsters together for no other reason than to bludgeon them in the ring. In addition to Frankenstein and the Wolfman, the brawlers include: the Mummy, Zombie Man, Cyclops, Lady Vampire, Swamp Gut and Witch Bitch — all of whom harbour grudges and talk smack to the camera.

To say that Monster Brawl is a fanboy’s dream come true is an understatement. Cook guarantees his film’s mass appeal simply by fusing together several popular genres: horror, wrestling and gaming. Moreover, he assembles an eclectic cast to further

Fantasia 2011: ‘Monster Brawl’ – Excellence in Execution!

Monster Brawl

Written and Directed by Jesse T. Cook

(2011) Canada

Fantasia imdb

It is only too appropriate that the World Premiere of Monster Brawl at Fantasia was presented by Tony Timpone, former editor of Fangoria Magazine, because if any film could be described as inspired by arguments from Fangoria it’s Monster Brawl. Or even arguments made before Fangoria even existed. The spiritual predecessor to virtually all genre publications was Forry Ackerman’s Famous Monsters of Filmland and one of the eternal arguments that raged in that publication (and its heirs) has always been: Which monster is stronger? Which monster is better? Which monster would win in a fight?

That is a question that has sold movie tickets since 1943 when Universal put out Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man and continues to sell movie tickets to this day, witness two Aliens vs. Predator films, a Freddy vs. Jason film and even a Freddy vs. Jason vs.

Director talks WWE wrestling monsters in Monster Brawl

You’d be hard pressed to find any guy who hasn’t grown up with professional wrestling. Taking this mentality, and really playing up the theatrics is director Jesse T. Cook in his latest film, Monster Brawl, which will clearly answer the burning question: Which monster is the King of the (Undead) Ring?

A Cyclops, Witch Bitch, The Mummy, Lady Vampire, and more all duke it out in the flavor of those 1960s El Santo pictures, but far more cooler. Killer Film caught up with the director for a quick chat as he is finishing up the film, to talk about monsters and wrestling, as they go hand-in-hand in what is shaping up to be a fan favorite.

Jon: The website says Monster Brawl is stylized in the PPV Main Event, and while this seems like an obvious question, how did the film originate?

Jesse Thomas Cook: The film started

DVD Releases for Oct. 19th. Time to stock up for Halloween.

This week sees a ton of genre movies coming out on DVD and Blu- Ray. The biggest being Predators, followed up by the remake of the cult classic Night of the Demons, a sequel to Mirrors, and Anniversary editions for Rocky Horror Picture Show and Psycho. Add to that a slew of indie and classic horror and there is a lot to choose from.

Predators

Directed by Nimród Antal

Robert Rodriguez presents Predators, a bold new chapter in the Predator universe. Adrien Brody stars as Royce, a mercenary who reluctantly leads a group of elite warriors mysteriously brought together on a jungle planet. But when these cold-blooded human “predators” find themselves in all-out war against a new breed of alien Predators, it’s the ultimate showdown between hunter and prey. Predators also star Laurence Fishburne, Topher Grace, Alice Braga, Walton Goggins, Danny Trejo, Mahershalalhashbaz Ali, Oleg Taktarov, and Louis Ozawa Changchien.

DVD Releases - October 19th: It's a Rocky, Psycho Night of the Predators in Mirrors

The number of home video releases on October 19th is not as abundant as in recent weeks, and fewer re-released titles means those that are available are much more special. In this batch one Adrien Brody flick competes with another, and at least two independent horror titles are making a splash. Two beloved classic films return in Blu-ray where one is supplemented by a documentary treatment of it.

Also, don't forget to strum & drum out with some tunes from Rob Zombie on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. Finally, foreign horror gives us an over-the-top Japanese gorefest, a British zombie flick where the $70 budget was spent on tea and biscuits for the zombies, and Norwegian black metal.

Sasquatch Mountain: The sins of the father...

I didn't have high hopes for this movie.  Any movie that has the name of the monster (Sasquatch) and location (Mountain) in the title usually conveys all you need to know about the film.  But Sasquatch Mountain defies the usual genre conventions by having little to do with Sasquatch. What Sasquatch Mountain is really about is fatherhood. It begins with home video-style footage of Harlan Knowles (Lance Henriksen) arriving on a deserted highway to fix his stranded wife's car. She captures a Sasquatch on tape, only to be subsequently killed in a car accident. Flash forward...

Lance Henriksen Develops Cat Scratch Fever While Dealing with The Witches of Oz

Lance Henriksen has battled Aliens, Predator, Pumpkinhead, The Terminator, Sasquatch, and all manner of supernatural and sci-fi terrors. Who would have thought he would finally face his ultimate challenge in the form of an unfriendly pussycat. That's what happened during shooting of his latest, Witches of Oz, and we have video documentation of this epic encounter.

Witches of Oz is writer-director Leigh Scott's latest, a fantasy thriller following the exploits of an adult Dorothy Gale (Paulie Rojas, The Last Resort), now a successful children's book author living in New York City, as she comes to realize her popular books are based on her repressed memories from her own trip to Oz just in time for the Wicked Witch of the West to arrive in Times Square looking to settle an old score.
