A half-hour comedy/drama series revolving around radio talk sensation Barry Gold, Shock Jock follows his move from the country to the big smoke and his phenomenal rise to pop icon. Set behind the scenes of a city radio station, CHAT AM, Shock Jock is an off-beat, irreverent ensemble comedy paying homage to the infamous world of talk-back. Set in the mid-80s-a time of greed, high-flying egos and great music.
Radio station CHAT-AM was once the 'king of the AM airwaves', then came FM, and the slow demise of the AM band as the home of the DJ. CHAT-AM's status as the number one station began to slip as listeners switched to stereo and, by the beginning of the '80s, the station was up for sale and fading fast. But then, the tide turned. AM Radio discovered talkback, an anonymous buyer discovered CHAT-AM, and CHAT-AM discovered Barry Gold. The thinking listeners were coming back to AM in their droves... as long as the Jocks were telling them what to think, and the listeners were listening to the sound of their own voices.
The eighties was a great time for me. It's when I grew up. Shock Jock has certainly done its research for the eighties. It contains loveable characters. "Barry Gold" and Michael Vietch. Also Tim Ferguson as the eye in the sky reporter. The clothes, the music and the language denote a time when society wasn't so up tight and places it in comedic situations. Like Frontline and the games this show bares that great aussie humor. A great show definitely worth a watch. ---SHEARS
