TG4 Appoints Film Producer Siún Ní Raghallaigh As New Chairperson

Donegal-born film producer Siún Ní Raghallaigh has been appointed Chairperson of the Board of TG4. Ní Raghallaigh is a former director of marketing and development at TG4. She previously worked with Tyrone Productions, the company responsible for 'Ros na Rún' and the 'All Ireland Talent Show', before establishing her own independent television company Ikandi Productions, which produced the documentary 'Off The Beaten Track' in 2011. Ní Raghallaigh currently sits on the board of the Galway Film Fleadh, which will take place over July 10-15.

Stephen Fry's 'Ros na Rún' Cameo Debuts on 'Planet World' 2 Oct

Stephen Fry (Q.I) filmed the cameo appearance in the soap last December as part of a BBC TV series on minority languages called 'Planet World'. The appearance will air on this Sunday's episode of 'Planet World' which is on BBC2, October 2nd at 9pm. Fry travelled to Spiddal in Galway for the BBC series to find out more about the Irish language in contemporary Irish society. Whilst there, he filmed a cameo role in 'Ros na Rún' where he played a confused English tourist who was lost in Connemara.

TG4 Reveals 'Ros na Rún' Teen Drama Spinoff 'Na Rúin'

TG4 are set to launch their new online teen drama 'Na Rúin' this Tuesday September 13th on 'Na Rúin' will be in the Irish language with English subtitles, and is a spin-off of TG4 flagship drama 'Ros na Rún'. The ten part series centres on a group of troubled teens living in a care home in the village and promises to have gritty, edgy storylines, including disappearances, forbidden romance, dangerous jealousy and the discovery of a body.

8th Annual Irish Film & Television Awards (Ifta) Winners

Bosnian war drama As If I Am Not There received three Ifta awards for Best Film, Director and Script for the film's Irish writer/director Juanita Wilson at tonight's Ifta awards, celebrating the Irish film and television industry.

Martin MCCann was named Best Actor for 'Swansong - Story of Occi Byrn', while Amy Huberman was got Best Actress for 'Rewind.'

Pierce Brosnan and Saorise Ronan took home the supporting honours at the awards with Brosnan winning Best Supporting Actor for his role in 'The Ghost', while Ronan's part in The Way Back earned her the supporting actress honour.

In the international categories, 'The Social Network' won the best international film, with its star Jesse Eisenberg winning Best Actor. Annette Bening took Best Actress for 'The Kids Are All Right'.

Stephen Fry to star in Irish soap opera 'Ros na Rún' (IrishCentral)

The station has confirmed that the British actor will shoot his scenes in the Galway based set in the coming weeks. The 53-year-old actor is currently working on a new BBC series which explores minority languages. He was invited to appear on the popular Irish soap during a scheduled trip to Connemara, in Co.Galway. A Dublin Christmas on Times Square (IrishCentral)

Irish language short film "Nollaig Shona", written and directed by Orla Murphy, was selected from over 5,000 entries to screen to an audience of up to 1,000 people, during the first-ever Times Square open-air short film event, part of the New York City International Film Festival, supported by the Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting. The film played this weekend on Friday 27th, Saturday 28th August and five times on Sunday August 29th. Writer/Director Orla Murphy commented " Shooting in the freezing cold the night before Christmas Eve on Grafton St, I never thought we’d end up on a balmy summer evening in Times Square watching an audience composed of every age and ethnicity, clapping and laughing at our little Irish movie. It was a huge honour to have an Irish film and one in the Irish language screen in such an iconic location…. also a little bit surreal

Mick Lally, actor, co-founder of Druid Theater dies (IrishCentral)

Mick Lally one of Ireland’s best-known actors, has died. He was a founder of the Druid Theater and best known to Irish television audiences as Miley Byrne in the long running series ‘Glenroe’ and in the BBC hit series ‘Ballykissangel’. He was aged 64. Lally’s other roles included voice work on the Oscar nominated feature animation, ‘The Secret of Kells’ as Brother Aidan and roles in ‘Circle of Friends’ and ‘Alexander’. He was born in Tourmakeady, Co Mayo, and began his career as a schoolteacher before moving to acting.He became a founder member of the world acclaimed Druid Theatre Company with Garry Hynes and Marie Mullen In 1979. He was a fluent Irish speaker and a strong supporter of the language, appearing in the Irish language series ‘Ros na Rún’.. Corrie triumphs at Irish TV awards
ITV's Coronation Street has been named as Ireland's 'Favourite Soap' at the TV Now awards in Dublin. The Weatherfield serial secured the gong after beating off competition from EastEnders, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks, as well as local dramas Fair City and Ros na Rún. In a strong showing for the long-running programme, Coronation Street also picked up two further prizes as Katherine Kelly (Becky McDonald) walked home with the 'Favourite Female Soap Star' (more)
