He loved her. When the child came, she forgot the tender tie that bound her to the man and thought only of the little innocent atom and the forgotten duty she owed it. Timidly she asked him to right the wrong. He listened to the whispered pleading, but his masculinity could not understand, so he refused. Then it was that the woman forgot she was a human mother; her soul wandered back to primeval ages, her heart was conquered and controlled by primeval forces, and her nature became animal.
