Trivia

Although Chi McBride, Anthony Heald, and Loretta Devine appeared in every episode, McBride played Steven Harper more than the latter two. He reprised the role in 2005 on an episode of "Boston Legal". The law firm represented the plaintiff in a case against Steven Harper. The episode was written in a way that people who had never seen the previous show weren't missing any details. See more »

Goofs

In her introductory episode, the character of Kimberly Woods claims she is teaching at the high school as part of the "Teach for America" program. Boston is not currently a city where "Teach for America" operates. It is being considered as an addition, but it is not in the program at the time the episode aired. See more »

Quotes

Marilyn Sudor: Women are so dumb, Steven, you know that? Okay, what would you do if somebody hit you?
Steven Harper: Well, I'd like to say I'd turn the other cheek, but I'd probably hit 'em back.
Marilyn Sudor: Yeah, turning the other cheek is overrated, Steven, take it from me. She's gonna marry that guy, you know what? Screw it.
Steven Harper: You're the last person in the world I'd thought would turn bitter.
Marilyn Sudor: Oh, I'm way past bitter. He's gonna beat the hell out of her, he's gonna break her spirit again and again, and you know what? Maybe they'll have...

Surprisingly good.
23 January 2001 | by See all my reviews

Fox is known for its awful nightly line ups. And with their new show, 'Temptation Island', I have learned to tune into different networks. Few shows come around that I like such as 'Malcolm in the Middle' and of course, 'Boston Public.'

I've caught this show maybe four times but every time I've found that it has good topics and some funny writing. Also, some good, un-known actors. (Well, I haven't seen any of them before.) The show deals with some exciting and interesting story lines that deals with the different teachers and students of a typical high school. The writing is very funny. And when its meant to be serious, it accomplishes that too. The actors can handle comedy and drama which is exactly what I like to see. Of course, I can't remember who is who since all of the guys seem to look alike. Anyway, the cast as a whole works well together. The principal seems to have some good lines come out of him.

Finally, Fox has come out with a decent show. Now watch, they'll go and cancel it in hopes of something better coming along. My predictions could be wrong but that seems to be the trend with excellent programs.
