Anne Laugel, a young divorced woman, mother of a ten-year-old girl, Sophie, travels to China to adopt a baby. She is convinced, as a good Westerner, to carry out this adventure for the happiness of the new born, her daughter and hers.
Anne is french woman determined to adopt an orphan in China, but Chinese authorities, criminals, actually the overall political situation and mentality are truly impenetrable barrier despite the fact she speak Chinese fluently and has an adequate grasp of their culture.. I was impressed with this one, even now I do not understand how they made such film about China (I have a feeling they shot most of the scenes in China territory) - ubiquitous corruption, ubiquitous red-tapism, some dare-all people because of their poverty. Shocking unpredictable story, shocking evidences, great performances. I actually do not exactly know how is the global situation in China but I know of some grave problems here which was were also underlined in this movie. Everything here is described realistically and dramatically. The director of this film along with the story writer (also the major figure) Caroline Sihol did it very good.
