Storyline

Shinnosuke Nohara, A.K.A. Shin-chan, a combination of Dennis The Menace and Howard Stern, is a 5-year-old growing up in Kasukabe in this animated series. His foul mouth and rude behavior constantly scandalize his parents (although his father seems to be a big influence), his teacher, and everyone else with the bad luck to cross his path. Later in the series Shin-chan gains a baby sister, who seems well on the way to following in his footsteps. Written by Jean-Marc Rocher <rocher@fiberbit.net>

Quotes

Misae Nohara: [after Shin has locked them out of the apartment] Shin, you little devil! What did you do now?
Shin-Chan Nohara: I just pushed a button and it went click. Is that the click-oris?
Commercial Girl: That's the lock... the love button is entirely different.
Misae Nohara: Shin, you moron, you locked the door! Now open up, do you hear me?
Shin-Chan Nohara: But... you always tell me, when you're not here, don't open up the door for anyone.
Misae Nohara: That only applies when it's not me standing outside the motherfucking door! Now open up this instant!

Ignore the Haters
14 September 2006 | by See all my reviews

Lately there have been some people taking some huge jabs at this show, Shin-Chan (mainly known as Crayon Shin-Chan in Japan and internationally). From what I've seen on Adult Swim, it was actually quite refreshing.

The amateurish designs of the characters (hence the original Japanese title) are a part of what got me into it, since a lot more than what you usually see in anime, and the writing for it is air-tight, mostly because a couple of people who worked on "Space Ghost: Coast to Coast" were involved.

The scripts may not be as close to the original as most people would have wanted, but since it's a comedy series, and usually involves jokes involving culture, most of the script had to be altered to match the similar jabs at our culture so it can be funny.

Let's hope that Shin-Chan will eventually become a regular running series on the Adult Swim line-up soon, and that it will be there for the long run.
