One of many shorts with a faux Chaplin from this era.

Charlie Chaplin's character, the Little Tramp, was very popular...so popular that many actors faked being him in various short films! The most famous of these was Billy West, though in "Don't Park Here" the faux Tramp is played by Harry Mann. A rather sleazy way to cash i on the success of Chaplin, huh?! To make it worse, there's ANOTHER Little Tramp in the film...though I'm not sure who played this one and I think it was Monty Banks.

"Don't Park Here" is a film from Bulls-Eye Pictures that was written and directed by Charley Chase...who would soon go on to many successful comedy shorts himself. In addition, Charley's brother, Jimmy Parrot, is in the movie in a supporting role.

So is this film about rivals in love AND a stolen car gang any good? Well, yes and no. It has several funny bits (such as the explosive beer keg) but the story is a bit confusing and convoluted. Plus having two take Chaplins in the film make it a bit of a rip-off and I hope folks back in 1920 didn't think either of them was actually the Little Tramp. Overall, it has its moments and is quite watchable...but not much more.
