Storyline

A retired general, too old to respond to an imperial order, his daughter Mulan, worried about him, disguises herself as a man and enlists in the army on behalf of the family. Having studied Kung Fu with his teacher Zi Moy for years, she's great fighting skills. During the first days of the war, Mulan finds a young soldier, Liu, with whom she makes a deep friendship. The conflict lasts for years and Mulan, who has managed to maintain his disguise during this time, becomes chief commander, earning the respect and loyalty of his troops by leading them to a brilliant victory. After the war, when it is time to say goodbye, Mulan confesses to Liu his secret. Written by arisandovalroa

Good

I generally like Burbank Animation Studios animations, and while not one of the better ones MuLan is still good. Like with most of the animations from the studios it is not perfect, the dialogue is corny and doesn't flow as naturally as it could have done and the animation is not that great, some nice backgrounds but flat colours and generic and unauthentic character designs. The music however is nice and memorable, and generally fits with the action, while the story has a sense of adventure with MuLan and Liu's close friendship is very touchingly conveyed. I do like the characters, especially MuLan, who is one of those headstrong and well-meaning heroines that makes it easy to relate to her. The voice acting is nothing outstanding but solid. In conclusion, a good animation for what it is. 7/10 Bethany Cox
