No Time to Die (2021)
Quotes
M: The function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them. I shall use my time.
Nomi: I get why you shot him.
Moneypenny: Yeah, well, everyone tries at least once.
Blofeld: James, fate draws us back together. Now your enemy is my enemy. How did that happen?
James Bond: Well, you live long enough.
Lyutsifer Safin: The thing that no one wants to admit is that most people want things to happen to them. We tell each other lies about the fight for free will and independence, but we don't really want that. We want to be told how to live and then die when we're not looking. People want oblivion, and a few of us are born to build it for them. So here I am - their invisible god sneaking under their skin.
James Bond: You know that history isn't kind to men who play God.
Lyutsifer Safin: And you don't? We both eradicate people to make the world a better place. I just want it to be... tidier.
Madeleine: Why would I betray you?
James Bond: We all have our secrets. We just didn't get to yours yet.
Q: So you're not dead?
James Bond: Hello, Q. I've missed you.
James Bond: You have all the time in the world.
Lyutsifer Safin: James Bond. History of violence, license to kill, vendetta with Ernst Blofeld, in love with Madeleine Swann. I could be speaking to my own reflection.
James Bond: We've made slightly different choices.
Lyutsifer Safin: No. We've just developed different methods for the same goal. Only your skills die with your body. Mine will survive long after I'm gone. And life is all about leaving something behind, isn't it?
Madeleine: She does have your eyes.
James Bond: I know. I know...
Blofeld: James, you gave up everything for her. When her secret finds its way out, and it will, it'll be the death of you.
Paloma: It'll be great, I've had three weeks training!
James Bond: If we don't do this, there will be nothing left to save!
James Bond: [at Vesper's grave] I miss you.
Felix Leiter: Harder to tell the good from the bad, the villains from the heroes these days.
Logan Ash: Why don't you help me out, brother?
James Bond: I had a brother. His name was Felix Leiter.
James Bond: [to Q, after killing Primo with his EMP watch] I had to show someone your watch. It really blew their mind.
Nomi: The world's moved on, Commander Bond.
James Bond: You're a Double-O?
Nomi: Two years. So stay in your lane. You get in my way, I will put a bullet in your knee... the one that works.
[last lines]
Madeleine: [to Mathilde] I'm going to tell you a story about a man. His name was Bond, James Bond.
Lyutsifer Safin: We both eradicate people to make the world a better place. I just want it to be... tidier.
Blofeld: I didn't need to kill you. I'd already broken you. I wanted to give you an empty world like the one you gave me. It's enough to almost make me regret it. Almost.
James Bond: Where'd you find The Book of Mormon?
James Bond: What is this, SPECTRE bunga-bunga?
Lyutsifer Safin: I want the world to evolve, yet you want it to stay the same. Let's face it - I've made you redundant.
James Bond: No. Not as long as there are people like you in the world.
M: Shut up, Q. I know he's staying with you.
Nomi: Do you know what time it is?
Valdo Obruchev: What?
Nomi: Time to die.
[kicks him off a ledge into a pool of acid]
M: The proper function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them. I shall use my time.
James Bond: The past isn't dead.
James Bond: I don't know if you wanted me to come here, or why you tried to kill Blofled, or who gave you the poison to do it, or how long you've been working for them, but I do know that for what felt like five minutes of my life, I wanted everything with you. And it's not because I didn't trust. It was just that feeling. I know I've come here to find out who gave you the poison but I'm not going to leave here without you knowing that I have loved you, and I will love you, and I do not regret a single moment of my life that led me to you. Except when I put you on that train.
James Bond: If I don't come back, blow it all to shit.
Nomi: We don't have enough explosives for that.
James Bond: Yeah, but they don't know that.
James Bond: [to Madeleine] You're right. Letting go is hard.
James Bond: The callsign? Something about a hat?
Paloma: Oh, I forget things when I'm nervous.
Madeleine: How will I know you're okay?
James Bond: You won't. You'll never see me again.
M: I can't pretend there weren't some sorry faces when you left us, Bond, but you fell so far off the grid that we thought you must be dead. Now, learning that you were, in fact, alive and well, and... working for the CIA, well... Well, that really was a blow.
James Bond: Well, they just asked so nicely.
James Bond: He told me you didn't betray me.
Madeleine: I understand you're not built to trust people.
James Bond: Neither are you.
Madeleine: Then we were fools for trying.
James Bond: I wanted to.
M: The world is arming faster than we can respond. Where's 007?
James Bond: [to M, on Nomi] I've met your new 007. She's a disarming young woman.
Madeleine: It's difficult to lose a parent, especially at a young age.
Lyutsifer Safin: Yes. Death has a particular effect in children, doesn't it?
Madeleine: What effect did it have on you?
Lyutsifer Safin: Profound. But I saved a life once. I think that had more of an effect.
Madeleine: Why is that?
Lyutsifer Safin: Saving someone's life connects you to them forever, the same as taking it. They belong to you.
James Bond: How's the view?
Madeleine: It's growing on me. Can you go faster?
James Bond: [shakes head] We don't need to go faster. We have all the time in the world.
James Bond: Can I talk to Madeline?
Q: Of course. How stupid of me.
James Bond: [observing one of Q's hairless Sphynx cats] You know, they come with fur these days.
James Bond: I remember everything.
James Bond: [after Paloma proved herself as an action girl] Three weeks training? Really?
Paloma: More or less.
James Bond: We're still gonna need that car.
[takes swig from glass]
James Bond: Salut!
Paloma: Salut!
Blofeld: Cuckoo.
M: [to Bond] If you've nothing left to give, you are irrelevant. You've done your bit and we thank you for your service, again. Goodbye. Moneypenny, send in 007.
James Bond: [last words] I know.
Primo: Blofeld sends his regards.
James Bond: Plenty of time, plenty of time!
Valdo Obruchev: Hey, I wouldn't need a laboratory to wipe your race off the face of the Earth!
Nomi: Do you know what time it is?
James Bond: Die, Blofeld, die!
Lyutsifer Safin: Careful! She's light as a feather...
Tanner: He's like this every day. Mad as a bag of bees.
Paloma: [in the wine cellar] Okay, come here.
[has his shirt unbuttoned in no time flat]
James Bond: Don't you think we ought to get to know each other a little better before we, uh...
Paloma: I, uh... no, no, no!
[she has his tuxedo ready and just wanted him to change]
Nomi: Look, this all seems like heaven, this little bubble or whatever, but it's so obvious you're a man who only has time to kill and nothing to live for.
Valdo Obruchev: Ow! My nose!
James Bond: So, the usual, then?
Madeleine: As long as we're looking over our shoulder, Vesper's not dead. You have to let her go.
Lyutsifer Safin: [heavily-accented speech] I'm sorry if I surprised you.
Madeleine: No. I like surprises.
Lyutsifer Safin: You're very attractive for a psychotherapist. Must be dangerous for your clients.
Madeleine: They're usually more of a danger to themselves.
Lyutsifer Safin: Foxgloves.
[Madeleine looks back at her potted plant]
Lyutsifer Safin: Beautiful. Did you choose them?
Madeleine: Yes. I find them friendly.
Lyutsifer Safin: You know, if you eat them, they can cause your heart to just...
[smirks]
Lyutsifer Safin: stop!
Madeleine: [with a smile] Then I'll make sure not to.
[long awkward silence]
Madeleine: Do you know a lot about flowers?
Lyutsifer Safin: My father had a garden. He taught me. He died when I was young, but my interest... remained.
Madeleine: It's difficult to lose a parent. Especially at a young age.
Lyutsifer Safin: Yes. Death has a particular effect on children... Doesn't it?
Madeleine: What effect did it have on you?
Lyutsifer Safin: Profound. But... I saved a life once. I think that had more of an effect.
Madeleine: Why is that?
Lyutsifer Safin: Saving somebody's life connects you to them forever. The same as taking it. They belong to you.
[long suspenseful silence]
Lyutsifer Safin: I'm not good at talking about myself, so I... brought a memory box. I thought it might interest you.
Madeleine: Sometimes objects can be more evocative than words.
[to her utter dismay, the box contains the death shroud mask - he is the man who killed her mother]
Lyutsifer Safin: I never forgot your eyes. Under the ice. A shock to see it so many years later.
[panic in her eyes]
Lyutsifer Safin: They still need me. I'm rather taken with them.
Madeleine: [hisses] What do you want?
Lyutsifer Safin: Just a favor. You owe me.
Madeleine: [shakes her head] You murdered my mother...!
Lyutsifer Safin: And your father killed my entire family.
[shakes his head]
Lyutsifer Safin: Parents! I need you to visit somebody wearing this. It's harmless to you.
[plonks vial of perfume onto the table]
Lyutsifer Safin: You are the only one who can do it.
Madeleine: No! Why would I do anything for you?
Lyutsifer Safin: Because I... am a man willing to kill the person you love most.
Madeleine: I've already lost everyone I've ever loved. There is nothing you can threaten me with.
Lyutsifer Safin: That is very sad to hear, Madeleine. But it is not true... is it?
M: The function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days trying to prolong them. I shall use my time.
Logan Ash: I was such a big fan of his.
Lyutsifer Safin: [after Bond is poisoned and Bond breaks Safin's arm] Now, we are both poisoned with heartbreak. Two heroes in a tragedy of our own making. Everyone we touch, we are their curse. A stroke to their cheek, a kiss, would kill them instantly. Yes, Madeleine. Yes, Mathilde. You made me do this, you see? This was your choice.
[Bond shoots Safin dead]
