- Through the cooperation of the Grand Order of Water Rats, the theatrical charity organisation comedians Ben Warris, Charlie Chester and Wee Georgie Wood act as guides through the history of the Water Rats, take us on a tour through the Council Room and the new Museum Room and talk about the stars of yesteryear and the theatres they appeared in. Ben and fellow comedian Davey Kaye visit the sites of where many of the theatres stood many of which have no plaque or other indication of there existance. However the pair draw upon their personal memories to recall stories both humorous and sad. Throughout the film the great names of Variety - George Robey, Flanagan and Allen, Sally Barnes, George Formby, Will Fyffe and Max Miller - are portrayed in a variety show that had it ever been possible to put on one bill the costs would have been prohibitive
