One Touch of Nature

John Sturgeon is a grouch. He doesn't touch his food, shouts at his wife, and stalks off in his chauffeured limousine, where he meets young Andy Clark fishing.

It's more a meditation than a story, and it's here that Edison's movie studio excelled in its years after Porter had left. I find their comedies slow and boring, and their story construction pat: here's a problem! Five minutes later: here's the solution! Now, on to the next film.

I attribute it to the writing, and the fact that the directors in charge of Edison's comedies had no discernible sense of humor. But every once in a while, they seemed to get a story that allowed their actors a chance to act. That's what happens here.
