This films stars James Parrott. He was a most unusual person and his brother was the even more famous Charles Parrott...also known as the comic Charley Chase. Both had similar career paths--they were both on-screen comics for Hal Roach Studios. Over time, both also began to work more and more behind the camera as a director. While Charley did a lot of directing as well, he remained in front of the camera much more and longer than James and most had no idea he'd directed so many films (165 to his brother's 91). James ended up directing many of Laurel & Hardy's best films, such as their Academy Award winning "The Music Box". Sadly, both died from substance abuse very early in life--James at 41 and Charles at 46.
This is one of about six dozen comedies in which James starred. "Take Next Car" has a plot rather similar to the later full-length Harold Lloyd film "Speedy"...though the Lloyd picture is a much better and more enjoyable movie.
James is the conductor of a horse-drawn trolley. The competition is trying to put the tiny trolley line out of business and Jitney Jim spends the film trying to steal customers with his cab. No real laughs...but pleasant enough.
The bottom line is that Parrott did make better films...and a few worse. It's a decent time-passer but not much more.
