Letty Boot (Victoria O'Keefe) is a wheelchair bound teenager who lives in Meadowbank Children's Home along with her friends Brian (James Forsyth), Trevor (Marc Barfoot) and Cath (Deborah Smith). Following a spate of robberies at Meadowbank (including the theft of a goldfish) Letty sets up the Letty Bootlace Detective Agency and is soon investigating dangerous horse thieves and criminals running an illegal immigrant ring. Taking the law into her own hands, she soon rouses the attention of Inspector Jones (Glynn Edwards) and the pair struggle to see eye to eye at times, but gradually a level of respect builds between the two.
Letty ran for a single series, with no repeat airings, in 1984 and was a TVS production for ITV. Six episodes aired in the 4.20pm slot on Wednesdays as part of the Children's ITV schedule. See more »
The Letty Bootlace Agency!
My memories of this are faint. I remember that Letty was in a wheelchair and that she lived in a children's' home of some description. At some point in the show, Letty and some other kids form a group of private detectives called "The Letty Bootlace Agency" (a play on Eddie Shoestring which was a popular show at the time, starring Trevor Eve.) Much in a similar vein to the Famous Five, they would solve a new mystery every week. I definitely enjoyed it as a thirteen year old.
My main reason for coming to this page was that I recently watched Threads on Google video and remembered that the girl who played Ruth's daughter was also Letty. I was sad to see that she'd died in a car accident in 1990.
