Aishwarya Rai Bachchan playing Megha, was not shown with her face in the trailer prior to the movie release. She being lesser popular back then, many of the audience speculated her as Kajol or Madhuri Dixit who have worked with Shah Rukh Khan under Yash Raj Banner.
Amitabh Bachchan was out of work and with no makers approaching him, he approached Yash Chopra for some work, and was offered a role in the movie.
Karisma Kapoor and Kajol were offered the roles of Ishika and Sanjana, but both of them rejected the offer.
Shah Rukh Khan agreed to do the film without looking at the script first.
'Sridevi' was supposed to be in the film as Amitabh Bachchan's love interest but the role was scrapped.

In the 1990's Gulshan Kumar had launched a film titled " Mohabbatien " to be directed by Yash Chopra. The film was shelved.
Priyanka Chopra was approached by Yash Chopra for Shamita Shetty' s role. But she had to decline as she was still under contract for the Miss World pageant.

This is the third movie that Amitabh Bachchan and Amrish Puri didn't share any scenes after Reshma Aur Shera and Coolie.
Amitabh Bachchan related a story that when Aditya Chopra was a newborn in a blanket, he visited the sets of Deewar. This was slightly incorrect. Uday Chopra was the new born baby and he came on the sets of Yash Chopra's shelved film "Gardish". Amitabh was shooting for the film.
